I'm planning on pootling round Dalby tmrw, has any one ridden it lately ?
What's the conditions like and are any of the sections closed ?
Cheers
I was there about 3 weeks ago and it was all open although that seems to change every time I've been this year (quite a few times). It's normally after the view point that looks over Fylingdale where a road diversion appears and disappears although the bomb hole section further through had a diversion in there previously as well (removed last time I was there).
Conditions wise, depends on the weather, but always sandy (dry or wet) and muddy if there's been any rain.
Did a lap of the red last sunday (9th?)and all the trails were open. Some rough tracks have been repaired and are pretty smooth and flowing again, probably too smooth now as it felt like riding on path at times! However there are still many sections that just smash you and bike to pieces.. Also, some fairly extensive tree felling been going on there this year so a few areas feel and look distinctively bare! No issues with mud or puddles though 🙂
Well, I rode there this afternoon, Very quiet ! only saw 3 other riders on the trails..........
Conditions wise - There's been a lot of deforestation on a few of the sections, there are also some new sections i think ? one part drops down into a right hander and the whole forest drops away in front of you giving spectacular views, it might have been like this before but the trees probably blocked the views.
The single track bits that are built up and that were rutted are now super smooth.......... same as the section leading to the bit of trail with the 3 bomb holes on its been re done,
Some of the climbs are cheeky, the switch back climb after the worry gill bit with the bridge that has rubber matting on it is loose and rocky, a good climb with a natural feel to the surface due to erosion, it is as said above smoother in places but in others it does throw you about a bit if you press on a tad.
Its bone dry, ride it....... its pretty tough towards the end,
