Anyone know when the closures will be away?
Was wondering about the hardrock on the 7th and if they will have mended the fireword between the twins and the next section. Its pretty mushed up now so if doesn't get fixed it'll be challenging !!
Will
Spoke to one of the contractors last week and he reckoned they should be finished in 2 weeks.
Gibb reckons we will just have to suffer a bit of mud but is hoping the contractors will at least scrape the worst of the debris away. Trail repair day this Sat if you have a spare hr or two....
Cheers john. Taking the van down south sunday to get checked for damp and warranty work.
At least we will be doing the full route still
What all is closed guys? Says all trails are open with a few diversions?
Coming on a day trip from Belfast, not doing Kirroughtree as black Craig's all closed, are any of the main bits in dalbettie closed, never beer but want to have a go at the main features
Cheers for any info
Mark
Got any info on the new blue section at Ae?
Mark. The sections closed are from Smithland Hill down to Twin Sisters, basically the bottom end. The diversion takes you from the top of Smithland Hill forest road climb along to the start of Spooky Wood
Easy enough to do what's there then nip over to Mabie, only 20mins along the road :D. Give the FC office a call before you come over if not sure 💡
Heard it is supposed to be good, taking a bit of building due to the weather and terrain being a bit on the boggy side just like most of Ae as a whole 🙄 Might go for a gander tomorrow...
cheers for the info, wont have time for mabie as we are only over for the day trip, if wee have a bit of time will maybe head up to kirroughtree and play on mcmoab as its enroute back to the ferry
By the time you take the back roads detour to McMoab you could have ridden Mabie 💡
Good point, will have to see what time we have after doing Dalbeattie, we have never been so may have a play on the fun bits and spend the day there, only 9 hours between boats and have to drive down and back ;o)
Usually make a long weekend off it but the ferry is £100 day return special so £25 each is dead on for a day somewhere new!!
Dumfries to Kirry is 1hr without getting caught by the camera van. So if you were to goo to Mabie first, depending on your fitness you can ride the route in about 1.5hrs then spend as much time in the jump park as you like. Lunch at the cafe, only open Fri-Mon. Then 1/2 -20mins to Dalbeattie. With diversions should take about 1.5hrs to get round unless you play on the Slab. Coffee and cake at the cafe at the end of the car park. Back to the '75 via Castle Douglas.
When are you planning to come over? Some "local fun bits" in Dalbeattie & Mabie 😉
Over this Saturday, one of the guys is bringing is young lad & his mate, so we will head to Dalbeattie and see how we get one 🙂
Any directions to the off piste local stuff would be nice? ;o)
U could mail me if u don't want it broadcasted here
Cheers
Mark
Will mail 😉 Have you got a trail map? Can mean riding a fair bit of forest road and going round in circles 🙄
Another option if the weather is ok is to do some of the coastal path from Kipford to Portling then road to Colvend and back into the forest via the track leading past the village hall. Follow track to climb up the Smithland Hill towards Spooky Wood :D. This is a walking trail, some gates to go through and some walking through fields and some terrific views out across the estuary 😆 Adds a coupl of hrs to the shotened trail. Cafe at Colvend. The trail is marked on maps as a black dotted line

Unless you have the time no need to go as far as Sandyhills.
Look out for the guys doing some trail maint, just need to slow down and maybe walk a short bit but should not spoil your ride. I may be there depending on whether or not I am dragged away for the weekend.
Yeah will get a trail map printed out b4 we come over, with a couple of kids we will stick in and around the trail centre but some of the local off trail stuff would be good to see 🙂
Not used to trail centres over here it's all natural stuff.
Cheers for all the info above, will be good for an explore when we get a bit more time 🙂
