I was there a couple of weeks ago and rode in from Rockcliffe so updated the condition of sections on trailforks. There was no access from the main car park and a lot of trees down elsewhere. There's a few sections that are clear and rideable away from the felling but not worth traveling for. If you're in the area the trails in Kippford woods seemed in decent condition and had been cleared of fallen trees.

Hmm, I said it was still shut to my pal last week, but he went anyway. He did 13 miles, so most of it must be open now. Screen shot from his Strava linked HERE

Follow up, I asked today what Dalbeattie was like. Yes, there are barriers across, in the car park, saying it is all shut. Yes, there are trees down, but nothing too bad, most can be climbed over. The off-piste has fared better than the waymarked trails.

I have a caravan across the road from the forest, rode some of the red trail a couple of weeks ago and I gave up as lots wasn't passable. I'll be there from Thursday so will take a look.

All interesting. Not quite worth the risk/travel yet anyone know any official dates (even this year?)

I wouldnt hold my breath. One part of Ae has been shut for over two years now, and the first climb on the red was shut by Eowyn, and is unlikely to open soon. We were talking about this yesterday. FLS dont want the trail fairies touching the waymarked routes, but, they wont clear them themselves. There are a lot of overgrown sections at Ae now, no one is sure what is going on, as Mabie seems to get maintenance, but Ae and Dalbeattie get very little.

The Cafe and shop have been hit since Eowyn, as the uplift cannot now be used as one of the access roads is totally blocked by fallen trees, and FLS have just left them. The uplift, generally, brings in around 40 people once a month, some hire bikes, and most use the cafe, so those people dont come to Ae anymore, hence turnover is lower in both of those businesses.

Oh, and the ‘controversy’ last Feb/March at Ae about MTBers using trails that were blocked off due to logging was total rubbish. At the time, FLS said the Greenhill trails would be open around April 14th iirc. They are still shut, and I doubt it will be before October that they are open, as there is still logging ongoing, with vast piles of cut logs stacked all up the hill. Until these are gone, the trails from Greenhill will (officially) remain shut. We were up there yesterday (in full camo gear!).
