I've just picked up a Switchbs k frame and was wondering if I can use any 12x142mm axle with it? Will the Shinano I e work with it? In the past, bolt through frames I've bought have cone with a rear axle.

There are at least 2 standards and they have different threads. Is there an owners forum? Might find the answer there if it isn't on the manufacturers site.

As above Syntace X-12 is the original, others have copied with their variations including shimano and a maxle variation (I think).

The joy of modern standards!

I'll try and speak to the guys at Stanton tomorrow to see what they say.

There is a description of the three 142x12 standards here:

If one of the frame holes is threaded, you'll most likely need a rear rockshox maxle, if they're both smooth, you'll need the shimano one.

I've a shimano XTR going spare if you need that one...yours for £20.00?

Thanks chaps.

Just got home and looked at the dropouts, neither end is threaded. Nickc could well be interested in that XTR one. What's your email addy?
