I know they're just launching in the UK, but saw a few in Spain. Look pretty good for the money, with a big boot. Had been thinking (dreaming) of kia sportage, Hyundai ix35, Skoda yeti. But this trumps the lot on price.
No, but we saw a Dacia Sandero the other week, Utterly confused its French owners by waving jubilently at it , cheering, and punching the air!
The French seem to like the Duster, especially in sh!t brown . . . looks like you can spec one up to around 19k, which seems a lot to me.
A used Yeti might be a better option in my view.
I was in France on hols when they launched earlier in the year - quite literally they're everywhere there.
Things I'd be thinking about would be that you have to get quite a highly specced model so it doesn't look too crap (painted bumpers, alloy wheels), and has a radio inside etc so that someone will offer you a decent trade in when you want to sell it.
The depreciation will be severe though....
The platform is the same as used on the Nissan Juke, Clio III and a fair few others, so it's not a bad starting point - the engines are all known good quantities too (well, the DCi's are)
I'll be looking at them when they have roadgoing demonstrators - but will be careful on the spec!
yes, high spec is about 12-14k. I'd be looking at cost of tyres, fuel consumption, etc. You can extend the warranty to 7yrs which seems good depending on what you get covered. Cheers
Having spent time in Romania, Dacia are everywhere, but slightly older ones, like this
They were awful, the throw on the gears was massive and I nearly fell out of a taxi going round a roundabout when the door sprung open. No seat belts but I just grabbed the guy next to me as the door scrapped along the ground in a shower of sparks. Driver wasn't bothered so I guess it was pretty regular
It's like a Renault, but slapped together by Eastern Europeans.
Yes, that bad.
Was going to mention but Mork beat me to it..
The Joke is a bit tinny, but it's a nice enough thing to drive (compared to BMW's and Mercs I used to run when I wasn't paying for my cars )
My local dealer has one in stock. Def worth a look I reckon.
I just typed "new Dacia Duster" into google and the tag line on the Dacia website is
New Dacia Duster 4 x 4, only £8995 - That's Less Than 10 k
how very insightful
That tag line is there because their customers need all the help they can get 🙂
Not what you call a quality product, but I like a bargain. The 4x4 model was everywhere in France last winter. I'd be interested in secondhand one in a year or so. But if you're happy to own it for ten years or so, makes a good buy if you're after an inexpensive 4x4 estate.
It's a big car with a tiny price....
You can't really 'spec one up to 19k' as there are no factory options - unless you're thinking of carlos fandango type dealer accessories?
'Poshest' one is £14,995 - for the 4*4 diesel.
Go 2wd and do without a/c - and it's £11,495. Which will also buy you a '59 plate 2010 Yeti petrol, with 30k miles and only a year left on the warranty.
So go and look at one - there's one in every Renault showroom. I like it.... But then I like a bargain. And I think that 110ps Renault/Nissan engine goes well.
Yes its cheap but even so, think of:
a) the depreciation (I reckon a £9k Dacia would lose £2k the second you drove off in it)
b) the fact its a Dacia. An Eastern European Renault.
c) the French like Dacias. The French also like eating horse winky and snails.
To think of it another way.... I'll probably "lose" an entire Duster in depreciation of my car when I chop it in after three years.....
I was going to suggest what else you could get for Dacia money but since you're 'dreaming' of things like a Sportage, theres no hope for you I'm afraid...
Errm if you buy a £9k Polo you'll lose £2k the second you drive off in it....
Buy a second hand car that wont depreciate so fast and one that you might be able to sell on again. Not a Dacia.
I was looking at these last night, think they look ok, base models a bit low budget but tinker with the specs and it makes a viable purchase, 3yr warranty as standard with the option to increase to 5 for a few hundred quid.
If you could get 5yrs finance to go with it it's a bit of a bargain.
Nissan chassis, Renault diesel engine and rugged looks for 10k?, what's not to like?.
Presses the same anti snob buttons as the first gen Citroen Berlingo and vehicles like it.
I like the idea of something cheap and functional. The On One inbred of the car world?
