looking to spend my £1000 wisely for commuting and woodland play. Down to Whyte Saxon Cross 2015 or Boardman cx team 2018. Im leaning towards the Whyte unless anyone can think of a reason that I shouldn't
Thanks
They handle quite differently to each other, so test one if you can.
The Boardman is very road-bike like.
I've got the Boardman, and I love it. But I only paid £613 for it as halfords dropped the price to £800, then I got BC discount then used a discounted gift voucher for the rest. I'd be gutted if I'd spend £1k on it a week before
There's also the Arkose. I like the look of the one with full hydraulic tiagra for £1k. Can't decide between that or the Boardman.
I did look at the Arkose as well in the alfine version.
I've got the arkose 4, great bike for commuting but the boardman is a lot more fun to ride. Although to be fair on the arkose its in full on commuter mode so the boardman is always going to feel better to ride.

Useful, thanks. The thing putting me off the Boardman is the press fit bottom bracket.
I've had the bike a year and not had an issue with it, no squeaks at all.
I've recently got the boardman, fitted 35c marathon plus tyres on and I've stuck guards on, feels as comfy to ride as my old defy. Happy at speed on the flat smooth roads, and great on the muddy bridleways. Can't comment on the whyte though.
Thanks guys. How do you find the gears? I've never used Sram double tap or single ring.
I’ve got double tap on my NS Rag. Felt odd at first but I now love it. Very simple to use and no issues to date. Single ring is good too. Not felt under geared at any point.
If you’re wanting to mess about in the woods I’d go for the Whyte. I’ve had a quick blast on one and it’s stable on the fun stuff. No experience of the Boardman though.
About this time last year, I test rode a Boardman CX Team in-store, on a turbo. I was a "SRAM Double Tap" virgin and I struggled to do the gear shifts I wanted to do eg. wanted to choose a gear two easier than I was in, as if to tackle the start of a hill, but I'd often end up one gear too little or too much.
Might have been Double Tap, might have been how the mechanic set the bike up before the test, I came away empty handed and luckily grabbed a bargain Cube Attain GTC Pro Disc a few months later.
The double tap thing took me a couple of rides to get used to, but it quickly becomes second nature. Over the last year, my Boardman's done everything from the commute, Gisburn & Llandegla for the hell of it, to 50 miles around the Galloway Gallop...
