I am looking to get a cyclocross bike for light off road and on road riding.

I have a Specialized Allez that is quite old and worn out. It has triple chain rings which I find useful around Calderdale (mostly the lower ratios for climbing) - I note that most Cross bikes seem to be doubles. Can they accommodate a triple?

Also I am thinking disc brakes as road bike rim brakes are laughable after using MTB ones.

So what is out there with Compact / Triple and disc brakes?

Any advice / help appreciated

I've been having a look round too, limited budget mind. I reckon Planet X is where I'll end up - £849 for their XLS -

No need for a triple - 34/44 up front and a long cage rear mech with 11-32 at back - you will be able to get up anything you can on a mtb.
If you buy from a good lbs the will swap the stock bike with the mods.
Ridley do some great cx bikes and you can go for disk or canti.

Last few years PlanetX have had the New Years sale thing ... prob worth waiting if your looking to get one of their bikes.
Their cx bikes are pretty heavy compared to other carbon frames mind. At a recent cx race I picked up one to feel the weight (as you do) and was very surprised considering it had what looked like a lighter spec than my alu framed bike, it weighed noticeably more.

The frames are pretty light, the wheels are massively overbuilt with plain gauge spokes, that's where the weight lives. With carbon tubs they are damn light.

Not sure what's happening with sales, wouldn't hurt to wait a day or two.
