Looking to change brakes on my Kona Jake as the original ones just don't cut it.

Anyone got any preference over using V-brakes or CX9?

I have a set of Deore V brakes I could fit just need to get a travel adjuster - one of these

I used the mini-v that tektro make, advantages they are more powerful but they can clog more easily with mud, depends what riding you do and which aspect your value more.

I use v-brakes and travel agents. They're brilliant. I'd never go back to cantis.

I asked a similar question a week ago ...

Very happy with my Shimano's since.
Mini v's sounded like they had 'issues'

Thanks guys, think I'm leaning toward the V brakes as its the cheaper option at the momment and I'm using the bike for communting so mud clearence not really an issue.

I have a set of cantis on a new pompino - they're fine derping around off road, but in a manchester commute they suck bad. I was wondering if the type of pad makes much difference? The stock ones seem really hard and shit. So would a boss set of pads make much improvement?

clubber +1

High speed descending on 3 Peaks this year on vees - no problems; last year on cantis, overshooting/not stopping, and, more worryingly for the full carbon fork, loads of judder.

And no issues with clogging on this year's grim race either...

Finally got around to putting on a V brake on the rear with the travel adjuster (after scratching head to work out how the cable needed to be threaded !) amazing I can now stop the bike just with the rear and it will lock up.

Thanks for the advice guys. Just need to do the front now.
