Right just wonder what hot in the world of cyclocross at the moment bike wise, any deals or stand out machines?? ive been tempted for the on one pickenflick, but reallt think my budget will be £1100, also not sure if the gears would be too easy on this as I'd be doing a lot of road miles still.

Cant comment on bikavailable but as the £1000 mark is covered by the cycle to work scheme the market is saturated. Pick one you like the colour of!

Gearing wise - For off road riding and racing* I find I stay in the 34 and just use the full range of 11-28 at the back. Some people will say you need bigger gears but it really depends on your pedalling style - are you a spinner or a masher?

I put a 44 on the front but I find it too much for muddy courses and slower technical offroad. I find it really useful on easy off road like gravel tracks. On the road I just sit in the 44 and don't have many issues unless I'm with a group and we come to a big downhill. Smaller ring on the front is less likey to hit things.

If you get a standard chainset (like shimano) then it is relatively easy to pick up different chainrings in the future.

Planet X are a good bet for value cx, I like plenty of the cube bikes as well. Mine is a Kinesis pro 6 but that is out of your budget I think.

*Succesful racing, 2nd overall in the league and enough podiums and prize money that I made a profit out of the 2013/14 season.

This is hard to beat - got one last year as a training & back-up race bike and very pleased with it

Could always get a road bike with discs, like the Whyte Dorset...

Ive got a road bike for commuting in, my commute is 23 miles one way, but there's plenty of options for off road, canal paths & into the hills too,, but I do know that I want something fast on road as sometimes im knackered and just want to be home asap, especially if its cold/dark/wet etc.

I was toying with the idea of getting a really cheap cx bike (ideally second hand ebay bargain) but then saw this vapour - seems almost rude not to at this price.....
