I have a sick obsession with watching dash cam footage on youtube.. I try to spot what is going to happen before it unfolds, however, it normally quickly descends into me shouting very nasty words at my phone screen.
Anyway, this weeks instalment of "Exposed: UK dash cams" quite royally pissed me off. The title says "cyclists crash" and the screen shot on the video is from 30s in. What actually happens, is some poor bugger is riding along the road (in a cycle lane with high-viz and helmet..) and gets wiped out by someone in a car who doesn't see them. Title should read "man gets wiped out by moron in car". And to make matters (my anger) worse - the only thing anyone is talking about in the comments is some woman who got in a standoff with another car and gets "priority" mixed up with "right of way"! We're doomed..
I always presumed that if you had a dash cam you wouldnt drive like a knob or at least wouldnt release the evidence! Drivers are weird.
We’re doomed
We've always been doomed, it's just fate.
I got cut up on the motorway by a guy crossing a double white line recently, dash cam clear visible. Drivers are indeed weird
Don't watch this stuff! It makes you lose any faith you may have in mankind.
I only saw one cyclist.
In all seriousness, you probably shouldn't watch things which you know will just make you angry.
You don't need to watch in order to know that it's a problem. By all means do what's in your power to effect change, whether it be the way you vote, challenging people's attitudes where required, or just being a considerate road user.
As for reading the comments, dude, you never read the comments.
I've just had a car pull off motorway - at the 200yd sign they stood on the brakes down to under 40mph with an empty slip road ahead. Thankfully I was far enough behind too slow as well. They then sat in the middle of two lanes on slip road at 30mph. The car behind me wasn't as patient as me so undertook. Leading to Windows down and gesticulations from both occupants of the DCW car. I think they were deliberately provoking.
The car had two dash cams in the rear and looked like phone and dash cam in the front plus sticker on bumper with some YouTube dash cam channel on it.
Haha! Only got half way through there are some treats in there. The cyclist is so so obvious the driver must have thought the cyclist would stop. The silver polo and green Fiesta, you sometimes got to let these twunts go rather than risk having an accidents.
There's a lot of aggression!
On a Facebook traffic page that I use, someone has put a “joke” picture up of a car with a cricket bat attached to the passenger door, as a way of knocking cyclists off as they pass.
Now I know it’s just a “joke”, but the comments below the post are quite frankly disturbing. The advent of social media and idiots like this spreading this crap around is alarming.
Portsmouth innit
One town where cyclists are targetted by motorists ( probably )
I always presumed that if you had a dash cam you wouldnt drive like a knob or at least wouldnt release the evidence! Drivers are weird.
Experience suggests that, similar to some helmet cam users, there is certainly a subset of "nobber who can never see they are in the wrong".
It does say at the start “Exposing the UK’s worst drivers”.
I mean, obviously it should say “Getting entertainment and youtoob views out of..” but at least they are on the right lines.
Oh, and there’s one simple rule in life - NEVER READ YOUTUBE COMMENTS.
There’s a lot of aggression!
I was just about to post the same. Some seriously angry people who are very bad at the whole driving thing.
That bit at 1.59 what actually happens?
nobs driving too fast down country road fail to spot give way sign (1:52) and then fail to spot junction and as a result go straight over a crossroads without stopping.
And then post it on social media.
Jeez, only watched part of it and how many of those are caused by drivers actively seeking to cause an issue - eg: car pulls out of junction on urban dual carriageway and immediately needs to cross to RH filter lane; do I a/ ease off the gas to allow space to do it or b/ accelerate to make it as close as I can while beeping and swearing.
Do people do it at work? Steve in accounts uses a wrong commission rate on a draft presentation and you run up to his desk yelling and throwing the paper back at him?
I Got some footage last night I might put up for comments for the moron brigade -
1. 2 cars overtake me just before I right turn, I spot the "body language", I say to myself (well, out loud cos you can hear it on the camera (blush)), these cocks are turning left, so I move out to go past on the right... as I'm passing them, the front one STOPS to let someone out of the junction they are turning into. So nearly got taken out by the car coming out.
2. half a minute later I'm turning right - stick my arm out, look behind, BMW coming up, overtakes me anyway, I wave and say "Go on then" (in the Queens English), not only is he passing me as I'm turning right, he's also taking the same right turn! So stops dead in front of me, then turns right and STOPS AGAIN because I've upset him somehow. Jeez. I asked him for comment, but he declined and sped off.
Do they wait until the roads are wet for this kid of behaviour? Haven't had anything for ages. (Even though I go looking for it blah di blah)
