On that comment- there's better ways to do it. When you can intervene to stop the problem in the first place, you should, rather than intervening after it's happened.

But hey, that bears no relevance whatsoever to the thread topic so it's almost like it's a distraction tactic

Agreed, I was thinking of discussion on the radio I recently heard, where someone was in a dilemma as whether or not to 'shop' their 'friends' who constantly insisted on turning up to dinner parties, drinking & then driving home, despite being asked not too 😯

I'm actually beginning to respect dereknightrider - he's got his trolling pitched just right, it's quite enjoyable.

1) start with a contentious statement in the OP
2) wait until people have got a head of indignant steam up and post something even more controversial
3) if the thread looks like dropping off the first couple of pages pop back in with another post to keep it going.

chapeau.

Surely if you have to return you've failed at trolling?

I guess in all truth i'm staggered the way society has changed and do in all honesty wonder when it came about, is it the religion thing? Is it the mummies boys no victim of bullying at school you've all been brought up to believe? This place is very much like a school the way it gets policed, dob each other in if someone uses a bad word.

It never used to be this way so you'll have to excuse the fact I don't like it, it's my opinion that's all, not a troll as you call it, I genuinely believe it's you that are the fools for participating in it.

Mind your own business, live and let live, what happened to that credo? The folk who should be policing us get to sit behind their computer screens doing the square root of diddly squat all day, the social workers get to blind eye quite obvious racially motivated child and vulnerable girl abuse, yet no worry we have an army of vigilante cyclist protecting our roads and dinner guests? Watch what you drink, your hosts will be dobbing you in the moment the door closes as you leave.

You really think that's a good society?

Maybe my anarchistic tendency is showing, but sorry, Bader had it right, rules are there for the guidance of wise men and the obedience of fools, I wonder what he would have called those who voluntarily enforce them on others for pure sanctimonious reason.

What you call sanctimony the rest of us call society. That's folk looking out for each other. Even in your own example above, should people knowing about the abuse have kept quiet?

Without commenting on this particular "cycling vigilante" I agree with the basic principle DKR is on about. A society that encourages its citizens to continually spy on each other is a sick society IMHO. I don't know if it's a generation thing, but some younger people seem to think its more acceptable than people of my age (over fifty).

dereknightrider have you ever had to pull someone from a crashed vehicle? have you ever had to knock on someone's front door and tell the that them their father, mother, son, daughter, brother, sister (delete as appropriate) has been killed because someone was driving dangerously, but hey they are alright and will be going to their family tonight.

I have friends & family who have to do that on a daily basis, then they have to put it behind them and do it all over again. That is the harsh reality, I can be a cold hearted barsteward at times & seen plenty of death & destruction over the years but firmly believe that everyone has the right to travel from A to B by whatever means safely & return to their family at the end of the day.

State sponsored snitches.

All that angst up there ^ I call it guilt.

You know, deep down it's wrong.

Now that really is enough on the subject, next time you strap that camera on, just remember there's still somebody out here that thinks you're a rude word meaning cowardly bad person.

6.5/10 a reasonable broad side at a number of easy targets but you dropped marks by failing to mention hand wringers, immigrants, PC gone mad or thought police explicitly. The social work and racist abusers earned you the half mark but needed to be fleshed out more. Must try harder though I can see you are putting in effort.

Depends on what you mean by "spurious". If "spurious" means - for example - overtaking and a pinch point, nearly knocking me off my bike and then arguing the toss when I try and point out the error at the next red traffic light, then I'm going to make damn sure that my helmet cam is running.

If that makes me a snitch, then I guess I'll have to bear the consequences.

I don't wear a camera on the road. But I am aware that no matter what you do, somewhere there's some fud that thinks you're wrong to do it. And I think it's a shame for them, that they're a fud, but there's nothing I can do about it- even if I stop doing the thing they're currently being a fud about, they're still a fud.

In just the same way I would be aware that if someone broke into my neighbour's house and I reported them to the police, they would probably think that about me as well. For some reason that wouldn't bother me & neither would this.

You are an idiot

Enquiring minds need to know Derek, where is the line for you?

As Atlaz says; what sort of crime would you snitch on? Clearly road traffic offences are below the threshold, what about a child murder?

Happy to let it go and the Police sort it out?

Just to help with your trolling (I'm enjoying it immensely) and given I don't think you've yet answered this, is there any point where you'd consider not minding your own business? If you're walking along a street and you see somebody being beaten up, do you cross over to the other side so that it's easier to ignore? A bunch of armed men running into a bank - do you look the other way?

Just trying to establish exactly how strong your anarchist tendency is.

I'd put good money on the bank robbing scenario being ignored - no-one was 'hurt', and presumably the 'bankers' got robbed so win-win!

dereknightrider » Mind your own business, live and let live, what happened to that credo?

Isn't that attitude the reason why we now have so many abuse cases popping up now? I'm not saying this is your stance on the subject at all, let me clear on that. But it was this kind of attitude that led to cases like this being ignored for so long.

Again people are asking you - where do you draw the line????

Perspective chaps, lets keep a little, you're snivelling cyclist snitches ratting out a few poor motorists, who heaven help us don't have enough agro already in their daily lives being the cash cow they are to the state.

Personally in my time I've been the 'have a go hero' I believe the term was when we were being encouraged in that direction, got a black eye and lost a contact lenses for my trouble helping a Taxi driver who was being assailed by local language students of arabic appearance, I've pulled folk out of the channel, saved kids who have fallen down cliffs, gone to assist with first aid at car crashes before the medics arrive and assorted other examples of good samaritan action that I would reason anyone else would have done in similar circumstances, certainly anyone from my generation.

No I wouldn't help the police under any circumstance these days other than rape and or murder if I were in a position so to do. The police have lost all my respect years ago, now that maybe because of governmental box ticking, but all I see are soft target acquiring cowards who shrink from any serious issues unless they have NCA backing.

And the more of you that follow our friend down the ratting out route, the more I'm likely to join any appeals to have commuter cyclists number plated up, what's grease for the goose...

PS I thoroughly enjoyed Dennis Skinners interview and take on things, a shame there are not more conviction politicians like him, but then he's from my era. I may not agree with everything indeed not much of what he says but I applaud his ability to say it and the fast disappearing culture of its tolerance.

They're (well we, really - cyclists are statistically more likely to be drivers than non-cyclist) not a cash cow. We get a net subsidy to drive compared to the taxes we pay to do so.

Some more troll points though for getting "arabic" in there.

Even if they can have the same impact/outcome as murder which is ok to report on (or presumably it'd be ok to snitch on attempted murder)

Is manslaughter ok to snitch on?

I think of the term troll for those faceless idiots that abuse the feeble minded on Facebook and the like, maybe the term needs expanding, but either way i could now level the same term to some of you that are now clearly attempting to get a rise from me presumably for entertainment so as that is supposed to be against the rules here, lets stop.

Lets stop with that universal end to internet discussion and apply Godwins Law, would Hitler appreciate you and your Hero's action or not.

I'm a cyclist AND a motorist. I've done stupid things on two wheels and four, I'm also aware that if I do stupid stuff in the latter then people other than myself are more likely to be hurt.

My driving license is a privilege I've earned because I've demonstrated I've learned the rules and have kept for 23 years because I've demonstrated I've understood the rules.

So, if you will entertain one more reply to a question?

Picture yourself, on holiday. You're using your camera to video a panoramic view when, out of nowhere, a mean person attacks an old lady (or gentleman if you prefer) by punching them in the face repeatedly. You have a perfect picture of the assailant on your camera..
Do you:
A: Help the police with there inquiries
B: Tell the police to FO when they ask for witnesses (as you have lost all respect for them)
C: just carry on with your holiday

D: Beat up the old lady too since it was probably her fault and she probably wets the bed and the Nazis will win otherwise. Then show the picture to your wife and beat her up for looking.

Personally I'd give the picture to the Gestapo.

😆

And would they report it to the police or have they lost respect for them too?

So, if you will entertain one more reply to a question?

Picture yourself, on holiday. You're using your camera to video a panoramic view when, out of nowhere, a mean person attacks an old lady (or gentleman if you prefer) by punching them in the face repeatedly. You have a perfect picture of the assailant on your camera..
Do you:
A: Help the police with there inquiries
B: Tell the police to FO when they ask for witnesses (as you have lost all respect for them)
C: just carry on with your holiday

Honestly haven't you got some 'what Tyre for ratting out' thread to discuss this on, I'm not a roadie, I'm a mountain bike rider this is supposed to be a mountain bike forum where bikers use their cameras for fun and sharing the stoke of the ride, I shouldn't have to be lecturing bed wetting window licking roadies on the difference between crime and road traffic offences.

It's done, I won you all lost, you're all bad people nobody likes you everyone hates you except maybe Hitler or Putin.
