Tynemouth crash: Cyclist seriously hurt in hit-and-run https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tyne-63534049
Looks like the driver was coming out the hotel car park, so maybe had business there and should hopefully from that be easier to track down.
I think we can expect a 'low sun' excuse, so should get off with a small fine.
Yeah, hopefully. It’s the hit and run element that’s so wrong. Accidents happen, low sun or whatever but buggering off afterwards takes a special kind of arsehole.
...but buggering off afterwards takes a special kind of arsehole
I think we often assume that the driver calmly surveyed the post accident scene and decided to "bugger off"
I suspect the truth is that they were genuinely terrified by what happened, and scared of how much they had hurt the cyclist, and they panicked and left the scene. After, when they had calmed down, they were then embarressed and terrified by the consequences of them buggering off and they are now sitting at home hoping they never get found.
I hope the driver gets a knock-on-the-door soon but my sympathies are with everyone who was involved and I hope they ALL recover as soon as possible :o(
Or had no licence/insurance, and simply didn't give a shit.
Or had just come out of the hotel bar.
I think that’s bullshit JAG, any humane person who thinks that there’s a seriously injured person lying there, possibly dying, doesn’t run away out of panic and fear. They run away to avoid the consequences.

live in Aus' nowadays and I was working thru a pedestrian collision research report that looked at police reported collisions versus hospital treatment records by vehicle type (including bicycles) over something like a 10yr period... the pertinent point is that here 15% of motor vehicle/ped collisions are hit and run...my perception is that police are fairly well resourced and make a very real effort to track down the drivers...reporting is what the press choose to report but a common theme if a court report appears is that the drivers often go to extensive lengths to explain away vehicle damage/hide vehicles/lie about who was driving and avoid any responsibility...suspect the decision isn't "panic" but just an extension of a mindset that justifies the consequences of dangerous driving as just bad luck
I can understand where @JAG is coming from, but i reckon it only applies in the moments immediately following said accident.
After that, self preservation kicks in.
"Or had just come out of the hotel bar."
Saturday afternoon, leaving a hotel...
What are the odds of him being bladdered?
Or shouldn't have been there in the first place maybe. Still an absolute a-hole move to not stop though.
