Looking for some decent cycling undies for longer rides.

For shorter rides (<20 miles) I just wear my usual boxers and for anything longer I have a couple of pairs of Endura padded liners but they feel a bit like wearing a nappy, plus being Endura they're starting to fall apart.

Any decent thinly padded alternatives to the 7Mesh boxer briefs that aren't 45 notes?

Not interested in bibs.

Ralph Lauren boxers were my fave but these days I use BaWbags bamboo for anything "long"

Not that they are long, just longer than my short and medium rides

I didn't realise Bawbag were still on the go, I used to have loads of their boxers.

I still wear a similar fit of boxer to those, but would like something with a tiny bit of padding too.

Apart from the 7mesh everything I see in a Google search looks like the pads are based on a baboon's arse.

the exact ones I wear seem to have been discontinued but I have similar to this:

https://www.johnlewis.com/under-armour-tech-6-inch-boxers-pack-of-3/black-grey-charcoal/p111956846?size=m&srsltid=AfmBOooA8hNWzHwUVeopfUvAsoa0518gaFRp9xZB_04bbVYI0AzRQ6uexqQ

which I wear under mtb shorts or trousers for all my mountain biking from uplifted downhill to south downs way in a day.

(No padding though - didnt realise the most recent reply was also the OP)

I just wear fairly short Nike tech (synthetic stretchy) boxers. No padding though.

are you a real cyclist if you don't wear padded shorts and use arse lard..... 😉

Not 45 notes - but once you've tried Castelli there's no going back.....had some endura undercrackers and there is no comparison in terms of comfort.......

Alpkit do some Merino padded cycling underkeks and they're awesome. Really comfortable on long rides.  You can get away with wearing them on a couple of consecutive days if bikepacking for example, without them honking.  Recommended.

Assume the Castelli liners are sized similarly to everything else they make so go 1 or 2 sizes up? FWIW they're just over 45 notes for some sizes at TradeInn.

The 7mesh ones are really good.

didn’t pay full price for them though.

is that the Foundation Boxers?

I bought a pair last week and used them on a 95 minute road ride and it was roasting, no arse lard and still felt comfortable and no chaffage. The only issue is they’re £45 but I ordered from 7Mesh direct and got %15 off my first order.

And here’s a review from MBR

I can't stand pads and normal boxers chafe like hell - I wear Saxx boxers from Go Outdoors. Slim/tight fit, with a 'ball pouch' and flat seams.

This is a revelation to me. Since starting mountain biking 20 years ago I've been using padded shorts but on hot days they are really uncomfortable and on a 4 dayer in May I blistered on day 1.

Since then I've not done any huge days but whenever its been hot I've just worn M&S boxers and felt more comfortable. I didn't realise this was a 'norm' for others too. I'll check out some of the options above, ta.

Do you know if they’re any good?

In sone scenarios it's not optimal. I was told on my MTB Guide Training that if I turned up to my assessment with cotton boxers that it would be an automatic fail!

No idea but I might get some in the future if I'm ordering something else from SP.

Did you have to undergo an intrusive and creepy "kit check" to establish this?

Galibier and Fat Lad at the Back made padded boxers - FLAB might have some in the closing down sale. Do Decathlon not have some these days?

Altura used to do some comfy indoor trainer shorts with a minimal pad from Elastic Interface, but seem to have stopped doing them (i guess i got mine as clearance) .

They do have some under baggie shorts tho, which look a little "odd", but would probs work for indoor training as well, but you'd be confined to the shed

I bottled it and did my assessment at the lodge instead. ( And bought some bamboo BaWbags as above, just in case it was some ghastly pan-UK thing)

I think you misunderstand, the problem was that he turned up in nothing but his cotton boxers
