Slightly morbid I know, but bear with me...
I'm planning on writing my will soon and recent experience on the road and some of the recent threads on here has got me to thinking how I could use my will to generate publicity against the generally poor quality of driving around cyclists, should I die by being knocked off.
Some of the recent deaths in London have been highlighted by victims' families and cycling organisations, to help drive for better attitudes from drivers and the legal community towards cyclists.
So I was wondering if I can use my will, in the event of my death happening whilst riding my bike, to mandate that the event is used to drive a publicity campaign, rather than leave it to chance...
E.g. name CTC/London Cycling Campaign/my MP or others to leverage it in a lobbying or advertising campaign. I guess I could include an amount in my will to pay for, or at least contribute towards, such a campaign...
Can a will be used to mandate this or only express a wish?
Of course you could - you will need to get it well organised but leave a chunk to CTC for campaigning on road safety for example would work and yo can tell them what yo want them to do with it
You can't force someone to campaign after your death. However, you can leave money for them if you choose - and stipulate what it can be used for.
That's a great idea. But, let's hope it never happens eh?
Me, I want to die peacefully in my sleep like my Gran,
Not screaming in terror like her passengers!
APF
Fill your stomach with harmless nitro-glycerine.
Then, when a motorist drives into you while buying shares on his mobile phone, he will die too and you'll remove at least one dangerous driver from the road. That's far more useful to me than a campaign will be.
