Hi Folks,

Thinking of doing a 2 day cycle tour at Easter with my kids and maybe my dad.

Plan is to ride from parents house along the national cycle path to Conwy and stay at the YHA. Then the next day follow the national cycle path to Llanfairfachen then jump on the Welsh costal path to Bangor which is a wide footpath.

Anyone ridden this section?

I keen to avoid the section where you the cycle path is just a pavement next to the A55 (Aber road to Aber falls) and then the later section where it just runs parallel, all be it segregated by a fence based on what I can see on Google street view.

I have ridden the coastline path from Llanfairfachen to  Aber falls a few times and apart from a sandy bit is pretty good.

The last section further west (Aber falls to Bangor) looks to be plenty wide enough for walkers and cyclist so was wondering if anyone has ridden that bit and what their thoughts would be on taking young kids on it.

Will it make the daily mail or will people just smile when they see 3 kids out enjoying a bike ride with their dad?

You might get some options from looking at Dan Evans' rides on Strava, if nobody posts here.

Personally, from Conwy, I'd make my way to Llandudno and jump on the train to Blaenau Ffestiniog to ride the private road up to Stwlan Dam with stunning views. 😉

Looking for something like this to do with the kids, as we missed out on our bikepacking adventures last year due to the complete lack of summer in the North West.

I've ridden this with kids. A not very confident 7 yo. And a 4 yo on a tandem. We rode along the short stretch from llanfair to Aber which runs right by the a55. I'm not sure there was even the barrier shown on Google. Despite this and a windy day it felt totally fine.

The cycle route after Aber used to take a lovely tiny lane via crymlyn. I would take this in preference to the new route. After this it's fine to Bangor with one slightly busy road to llandygai. Take care not to miss a turn where the route goes through a narrow gate to avoid a tight uphill section on said road.

I can't vouch for the coast path but we rode a section  it to get past the holywell gap. The kissing gates soon became tedious with a loaded tandem.

As I'm sure you know check it out on cycle.travel if my description doesn't make sense

Hmmm, we have plans to do this route on a loaded tandem over Easter, so I might have to check out those route guides

Morecambe Bay is a nice ride, we did that over 4 days  - 2 out and 2 back, but yo can just go one way then get the train

Nbt.  The north cost cycle route is great. We linked it with bits on the Wirral and the rail path from caernarfon to porthmadog. The problem is there is a section around holywell where you have to leave the coast (hilly) or use a busy road. We tried to use the coast path and found a few to many kissing gates.

This was our route https://cycle.travel/map/journey/373570

Agreed the bay cycle route is good too

Thanks folks.

I fancy riding next to the sea rather than the A55 where I can so will skip the road sections where possible.

Bumping this, we rode this at the weekend - see report here. We just followed NCN 5 - I couldn't see an easy way to get any closer t the sea anyway
