There's a really interesting story on the BBC News website at the moment. It's a really sad story of a young cyclist who was killed by a SUV driver. However the driver in this case is being charged with murder. I'm aware that we've talked on here before about how UK driver who kill cyclists often get away with seemingly minor charges, so it might be interesting to see the outcome.

However the story's also an interesting look at how France, and Paris in particular, are grappling with too many cars, climate & green travel in general, something that's mirrored in the UK. I thought folk might be interested.

Although the situation as explained in this article is quite different. The driver had run over the victim’s foot, then reversed and ran over him killing him: this makes it seem a deliberate attempt to kill rather than an accident.

Obviously the full facts won’t be apparent until it reaches court - it could easily be a case of murder or of a driver panicking and pressing the accelerator instead of the brake.

There was a murder charge this week for someone who rammed an idiot doing wheelies on a Surrn.

Pretty sure we're discussing cyclists.

Interesting that of the two people involved in this incident, you use a pejorative term for one of them, and it isn't the person who is apparently accused of murder, but rather their victim.

Shipman: "someone who injected lethal doses of drugs into some gullible old fools"

Boden and Marsden: "some people who battered to death their annoying whiny baby"

(I just googled a random baby killer, I don't have a list or anything)

Actually it says he reversed first, then drove forwards towards the 27 year old.

I'm guessing he accidentally ran over the guy's foot somehow, reversed back OFF his foot, then fluffed the gears and shot forward - with countless pedestrians gesticulating and shouting at him.

I'm guessing he didn't like his ****panzer being touched by nasty cyclist, so he deliberately drove over him. And is crying about it now because he's facing the consequences.

Either version is equally possible based on the information available.

"road wars"

Usual sensationalist crap from the BBC. Talking about the (alleged) murder of a cyclist and they say it's extreme but it's "resonated with many Parisians".

Now try that with any other minority group or indeed any other murder in general.

FFS.

I'm guessing he accidentally . . . fluffed the gears and shot forward

I expect that will be the gist of his defence - and whether that is true or whether he intended to kill the victim is what the court must decide.

Now try that with any other minority group or indeed any other murder in general.

The recent killing of a Health Insurance CEO in the US?
