I'm off to Italy next week for a couple of days road riding with a mate of mine who is from the local area, when i mentioned insurance to him he assured me that as an EU citizen that i wouldn't need any extra insurance as i'd be treated for free by their health service.

Is this right? most threads i've seen on the matter seem to be gnarly downhillers and freeriders off to bike parks, that definitely won't be us, cyclo-tourists would be a more apt description. However if i were to even break a collar bone and needed some sort of upgrade on the flight home would some sort of insurance cover this?

Thanks.

E111 is now obsolete, you need a current EHIC
