Hi
Anyone know the position for club rides and juniors (16 years old). Ie could ride leader / club be held responsible if something goes wrong? Does 16 count as an adult and therefore acting under own responsibility?
I know 16 year olds are allowed to enter triathlons and ride on the road
Thanks
don't know where you are, but in Scotland, if juniors (under 18) are riding with BC affiliated clubs, then there is a whole raft of stuff, ride leaders/coaches need PVG certification (Protecting Vulnerable Groups), First Aid etc etc.
Kent - but junior in question is 16 so may be different
Just edited my first post, it's 18 here on Scotland, not 16 as I originally had
Sixteen is not an adult and the club has a duty of care. A ride leader in a BC club who takes out juniors should have been DBS (previously CRB) checked. Club insurance is to cover liabilities for the ride leader not the 16 year old. Riders are encouraged to have either BC or CTC membership for third part insurance purposes. This is true for adults and juniors.
If riding in a non-club setting then all bets are off and the parent is responsible.
Thought so - thanks
