After a long conversation with HR I was told we as company could not do a cycle to work scheme as any employe that was to have an crash would not be insured and the company would be liable? I am i being fed any load of rubbish or it this true?

What happens if you crash your car on the way to work?

The point made to me by HR was the bike is owned by the company there for they are responsible

Like a company car then?

Your employer is only liable for mileage covered whilst in the course of business, NOT commuting.

@ Wool - if that was the case no company would sign up to the CTW scheme

True the bike is owned by the company and the onus is on the employee to insure the bike, but if you had an accident the company would not be liable for any third party liability.

load of pish. Even if you are doing business mileage on the bike the company only carries liability if they are negligent.

My mrs uses her bike for work mileage. Her bosses ( the council) insist she is competent to ride ( self assessed) and wears a high vis jacket. Don't even insist on a helmet. That discharges the councils liability.
