You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Planning a weekend away in April with a few mates. Having been to both before we can't make our minds up on which one this time.
Haven't been to CYB for probably 4 years and have heard that the trails are a bit different to the old red bull, mbr and karrimor trails. Are the new trails better or worse than these 3 classics?
Been to Afan fairly recently and really enjoyed it there as the trails were good, but the nightlife was even better. We did Neath and Swansea and had a great few days of riding and drinking.
Could also do with some recommendations for bike friendly B & B's in Dolgellau and Neath areas, that are either pubs or have a pub nearby.
CyB is worse than before, unless you like fire roads.
My choice would be Afan every time.
North Wales for me. CYB, BYC, Penmachno, even NYA all reasonably close by.
Not really a fan of fire roads. I enjoyed the singletrack climbs of cwm carn, and skyline at afan, but not the constant stopping to get through gates.
The old mbr and karrimor were good rides, have these really changed for the worse?
Not really, the trail snobs will always say it used to be better, CyB was getting a bit worn in places so needed some attention, they have removed some technical elements but you just ride some sections faster, you will enjoy it regardless, CyB still more technical than Afan.
Having recently ridden both and having ridden CyB 'back in the day' I'd still say CyB is a far superior trail centre than Afan.
Of course both are good so no matter which you chose you'll enjoy yourself but don't be put off by the old farts and naysayers over CyB, its still a cracking place to ride and the few fireroad climbs that you have to do were the same fireroad climbs you had to do in days of yore. Of course if those self same naysayers had actually ridden at CyB back then and now they'd know that.
cheers chaps. that's good news, as we really wanted to get back to CyB as we all agreed the riding was more enjoyable (less stop start and more technical), but had heard it wasn't quite as good.
Just need some recommendations for B & B's in Dolgellau then. We previously have stayed at Tyn y Groes (sp?), but we fancy revisiting the sandancer on Friday and Saturday, and it'll be easier if we can get off the bus and get straight to bed, instead of kipping in a car.
Barmouth? not too far away and sure to have what you need...
