I am thinking of building a Cyclo X bike with disc brakes. I have some Crank Brothers Cobalt 29er wheels, will they work ok on a cross frame with skinnier tyres on? Thanks.

Depends if they're the same fitting as your CX bike! (100/135 qr or bolt through etc.)
I friend of mine runs his Crest on Hope Pro2's on his cx bike without any problems.
Just might have to be a bit careful what tyres & pressures you run.

Unless the Crank Bros rims are particularly wide (and I don't think they are) then they'll be fine. So long as they fit the bike, as pointed out by goldenwonder).

Thanks GW
Looking at a Planet X frame so the rear is 135mm so looks like it may work. Thanks for the help.

Rims are 19mm, so fingers crossed, thanks nemesis.

Yeah, the majority of CX disc frames are 135mm and the forks standard QR but increasingly 15mm is appearing at the front but PX are QR/135

Been happily running Mavic Crossmax SLRs on my cross bike this year, it's not a problem, as already stated above it's all in the dropout spacing.

If it's a CX frame with disk caliper mounts, then it'll have 135mm wide dropouts, as I'm fairly sure rear disk hubs have only ever been 135mm MTB versions.

I replaced the wheels on my CX bike last year, and went straight for a 29er wheelset, and they were fine. They're a 25mm rim, which means 25mm outer width, and in my case, 21mm inner width, which is the one you need to worry about. Anything wider than 21mm inner width could make fitting 35mm tyres a bit tricky, especially if you're running tubeless. If you're saying yours are 19mm (internal width presumably) then that's perfect, though that does sound narrow for a 29er rim.

There are some 130mm CX disk frames about.

Pretty much any hub used for road or MTB can also be used for 'cross bikes. The main consideration is the dropout width; most cyclocross with rim brakes have 130mm rear dropouts, while mountain bikes (and most disk brake CX bikes) use 135mm. Some hubs are convertible, others will only do one or the other. A few cyclocross disk brake bikes use 130mm, which is silly, but there are a few hubs available from American Classic or White Industries.
