There was a good thread on here where someone was asking what upgrades to get for a cx bike. I've got a 09 (I think) Boardman CX Pro which has been an incredibly loyal servant, done some 4000 miles commuting so is in need of some tlc.
I'm going to replace the drive train, but i'm thinking of a new pair of wheels as the braking surface on the rims are pretty worn out, what do people recomend for cx bikes? Anything else to look at for them? Was thimking of a nice (in the sale) carbon post, maybe a carbon bar?
providing you don't want silly low gearing, ultegra or sram equivalant. i like a 12-27 on the rear.
mavic open pro are the general rim of choice, personally i swear by mavic cxp33 rims as they are bulleproof offroad. lace em into some ultegra hubs or hopes if you feeling flush, job done!
drivetrain - buy cheap, more expensive stuff is barely any lighter and gets thrown out.
I'd get some ceramic coated rims - should last forever (or until you get a bike with discs). No need for new hubs/complete wheels unless yours are goosed or it's cheaper (self-build?)
New bars will necessitate new tape (and justify replacement of any duff cable outers)
surely good wheels are the single best upgrade esp on cross bikes? standard rims and road hubs but with more spokes ie 32 should be fine i would have thought
Planet X A57's get good reccomendations and I am happy with mine. 30% off at the moment too I think....
I like the idea of some Open Pro Ceramics on Ultegra hubs though... 🙂
I'm sure they'd be fine? assuming no issues with surface offroad ie with mud and you're not a heffamoose 😉
I've been using a 16 spoke front wheel with no problems. So far...
