I'd like to hear from people who have raced on frames 'with & without' chain stay bridges.

I like the look of the Specilized crux but that bridge looks like a mud trap.

I've only raced on the Columbus frames (without bridge)

Have you guys noticed any increase in mechanical issues / mud build up on frames with bridges?

That bridge is only there so they can flog it as a commuter. For racing that screams mud trap. If you are stybar and get a new crux every lap it's not an issue but if I was buying a race bike I'd want to give myself a fighting chance with as much clearance as possible.

why do the likes of specalized and ridley use them in there alloy range?

I'll have two bike.

just wondered if its as much of an issue as I imagine it would be.

I think even the Cannondale super x carbon frame has one.?

I guess pure race frames aren't a big market. I've jammed up with both chain stay and non-chain stay bridge frames in different races but without jammed later, so it's not scientific but I'd try and find a frame I liked without bridges if possible.

Yes it has, it does act like a shelf to build mud on, but it's never got to the point it's been a bike stopper, raced it for two very full seasons now, and still think it rides superbly.

The crux carbon doens't have the bridge, and probably has the best tyre clearance of any bike on the market at the minute.
