SKS Bluemels - research - done. right colour. check. right width. tick.

first problem - disk fork and disk mount at rear - hmm ok, bend the metal arms. phew

second problem - arms too long, had to measure and cut - eek!

third problem - slotted bracket on front guard, wouldnt line up, had to bend it, hmmm .

4th and final problem for the front - using MINI V's, guard is too wide for the brakes, and wouldnt allow me to open them up if i needed to get the wheel off - DAMMMMMMMMMMIT

5th and final problem for the rear (including the other 3 above) doesnt have any mounting holes along the rear chainstay, so the guard WOBBLES.

after taking both of them off, and kicking them around the garden - i tried fitting them to my GF's Cube - (thankfully the cutting of the front arms was right for hers too) and they were fitted in less than 5 mins.

she got shiny new bits on her bike

i got a stripe up my backside still

sigh

time for a ride in the sun 😉

I must admit to using mudguards on my CX bike. But it's mainly used for commuting.

From my point of view the big fail with your post is that you're using mini-Vs when you've got a frame that will take discs.

For winter gloop CX trail riding I use a strap on (!) type rear only mudguard that I trimmed down width ways with a Stanley knife, works a treat

Here we go again. "You're not man enough cos you don't ride a 53/42 chainset with an 11/21 cassette on your road bike" or in this case "Epic fail mudguards on a CX bike".

Yeah right, cos he's obviously racing cross and wanting guards on isn't he? And are there a lot of CX races this time of year anyway?

*ossers!

If my company gets Bike2Work I will be getting a Boardman Crosser because it CAN take guards and rack AND has disk brakes. (Disk brake/guard/rack stay interface nightmare already envisioned).

should have called the thread
"700c wheeled offroad bike with drop bars Mudguards - what a...etc"
🙂
much less aggro, considered trying my (already full mudguarded) pompino offroad but need bigger tyres, bigger guards, lower gear and by the sounds of it a load of faff. Winter xc commuting....maybe give it a go this year

update again . fitted guards from 'update' previous - they are 'ok' not great in terms of being a bit flappy at the rear, but they clip on and off easily and keep the spray of my backside when using the CX to commute and pootle around to the local cafe for an espresso.

Blimey those mud guards look they came straight out of the early eighties!

They made me think of my poor old road bike that I thrashed everywhere, which had some similar looking guards on 😉
