Morning,
Mrs Ferris has a Lynskey Cooper Cx bike that was bought for winter training, but now we are thinking she will get more use as a gravel bike. It currently has some really narrow Mavic road rims on Hope4 hubs. Its running Shimano discs. Any recommendations for rims of complete wheelset for Cx/Gravel?
We are looking to not spend more than a few hundred either way.
Fulcrum Racing 5's will do nicely 20mm internal, tubeless ready rims, just over 1600g's and decent hubs.
Or if you want to be all cool beans big gravel trye gnar, go for the Rapid Red 5's at a few quid more and 3mm wider internally
Superstar have half price wheelsets at the moment
I've not used either wheelset but I do have a wheel I built using their V6 rear hub and it's been good. Decent bearings and although the wheels aren't the lightest they use standard spokes so maintenance etc isn't likely to be a problem.
thank you I will take a look
I’ve run the Fulcrum Racing wheels in various guises, but presently I’m really liking the DT Swiss G1800 in both 700 and 650 sizes.
I recently bought Hunt's 4 season All road wheelset, £300, I'm very happy with them and would fit the bill nicely.
Are the pro 4's in good nick? If so then Mavic Open Pro's are amazing gravel rims (if the spoke count is right). Run mine tubeless with 43 mm soft tyres and they have been rock solid. Replacing the rims is the cheapest option.
