Evening all,

I live in the New Forest and most of what I have to ride on looks a bit like this...

This time of year, anything in the trees (cheeky paths) tends to get very muddy, so am looking to supplement my XC riding with a cyclocross bike.

I have previously owned a CX bike,(about 5 years ago) I suffered terribly from punctures on this sort of surface as the shingle that is down breaks up and forms very sharp shards and these have a nice way of embedding in tyres and tubes.

So has tyre / tube technology moved on very much in the last 5 years and would tubeless work instead (I run tubeless on xc bike)? What about tyre pressures etc - I can't help thinking punctures would still regularly happen, even with tubeless?

Any advice gratefully received....

ah yes the new forest, i once had to repair a flint puncture at night on a piece of track just like that. genrally race cx tyres are more puncture prone that xc tyres imo.
I'm running mich mud 2's tubeless but i think it would only reduce the small flints punctures and would wear down fast on that type of terrain. i can run them around 35f-40r at 80kg
If you want a robust training tyre that will wear well and survive some flint get landcruisers, they are not racing tyres and not as supple and a bit heavy but they wear well for training purposes.
