Rode Cwmcarn today, not been for a while but its turned into the 'Glentress' of Wales, overbiked people in body armour riding normal trails! And full of braking bumps and ruts. Just an observation, as long as people were smiling that's all that counts, move along.......

We went today. Enjoyed the riding, esp the DH runs but it does seem to be populated by fairly ignorant people these days - starting to rival llandegla for that imho. I guess that's the joy if being so close to large populations.

Ne'mind - good day on the bike all the same.

My missus had a bloke barge past her on some Singletrack, she fell out with him but in fairness he did apologise a little later when she saw him again!

Not ridden it for a long time but taking a mate over in the morning, be good to see how it's changed though. Trail centres will always attract certain types of riders though.

Far better natural stuff about anyway 🙂

i think people probably only ride the xc trial in bodyarmour, beacuse they have proabably gone for the dh and fancy a change, for a couple of runs.

It's up to people what they want to wear or not - just leave em be ?

Imagine wearing a full face lid for an XC trail?

I do like Cwmcarn but find I have to start at 8am to get a decent run at it.

K has to wear that to disguise his sheer radiator to the power of sickbag skillz innit.

Either that or it's to stop mud getting on his beard. 8)

And full of braking bumps and ruts.

Can't say I noticed any on thursday..
I did notice however that the cafe, toilets and bike wash where shut.

Nice pics! Especially http://www.flickr.com/photos/sheldona/5312227471/

I've started wearing a full face, goggles and knee and elbow pads on regular trails in the Surrey hills. I found my riding wasn't progressing before I reverted to wearing this stuff. I'm now much more comfortable really leaning the bike over and letting it drift, kicking up some roost, hitting awkward jumps etc. I had been plateauing, and adding this level of protection has helped me to turn things up a notch. That's one way of justifying it. Partly it's that it's a bit wet and in places unpredictable at the moment, I didn't previously feel that comfortable hooning it.

Of course you just clip the helmet to your backpack for the climbs.

i remember when cwmcarn was a single dh run, with that swoopy bit at the bottom going up the sides of the banks through the mulchy dead ferns, what fun it was 🙂

and i hardly ever saw anyone else, though remember seeing the guy who skidded his car into mine at that gloucestershire 4x and wrote my car off... no memories like that for the glentress motorway, let me tell you! 😆

I wear a deerstalker and welder's mask combo, lederhosen and a boob tube

My riding has progressed immeasurably

FFS you're bimbling round some tame trails in surrey. Get a grip. 😉

Are you ever going to man up and ride DH?

I rode the Twrch yesterday...

Is it ruder and more ignorant to ask politely to get through, sneakily over/undertake or sit there not letting someone through?

As you've seen I have no bike control and am scared of going quick on descents.
So it'd be a bit pointless. 😉

And there's no more room in the garage for another niche bike.

You're pretty quick on featureless doubletrack 🙂

You should jump on the back of the tandem. I'm told it looks even faster from back there. 😆

I have toyed with the idea of a DH bike but think that it'd only make me want to get back into MX and Enduro's again.

And I'm far to old for that now...

From what I remember of a recent HONC coming off Cleeve Hill, the tandem makes a passing resemblance to a DH bike 😯 😆

That was because we couldn't stop.

As the guy who tried to block us found out. 😯

Don't mess with the goggles!

Ignore Sheldon. He's just jealous of people who have the know how to adjust a geared bike. 🙂
