You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Me and Martin are considering a day trip to CwmCarn at the weekend. It's been a while (2 years?), but I remember the XC trail is fairly short. We could do laps, but is there a simple way of extending our ride by connecting in a loop of good "natural" trails?
Good load of stuff from the top of the red and a case of gettin out there to explore it. Plenty of bridleways worth an explore also
You know when you get to the gate house for the scenic drive head up the forestry track on the other side of the stream. Head up there and look for any trails on your left. if you find the right one it will take you up some good single track which eventually gets you up on the top. From there you can head around and hook back onto the trail up near the old free ride park. Loads up there to explore. Hope this helps.
Me & a mate started at Cwmbran we parked in a small car park by a clay pidgeon shooting place on Mountain Road. We rode up the hill to the top & then headed over the ridge to the top of the Twrch trail. The route is quite wide with 4 x 4 tracks so easy to follow. Put bikes over fence at the style by the play area that used to have the ladder drops & then rode the Twrch trail to the bottom (the best bit IMHO).
Had lunch at the cafe & then rode back up the road most of the way to the top of the Twrch, back over the fence & along the ridge. The descent back down to the car park was superb 🙂
I would suggest you have an OS map of the area so you can see where to park & where to go when you get to the top.
Thanks, I'll investigate both those options on maps.
Buzz - on Google maps the car park is just past the Mountain Air Inn which I believe is/was closed. You can see the trail going off at 7 o'clock the white track up the hill - superb descent on the way back down.
To be honest it was our first time doing it this way & it was great fun apart from riding up the road rather than the Twrch trail to get back to the top. Enjoy Cwm Carn whatever you do.
