You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Hi all. We've been riding Cwm Rhaeadr for years, awesome little trail. Last spring a new addition appeared "Tanks Return", just a trail veering off to right a quarter of the way down. It was just an A4 sheet of paper with an arrow and a name. So we rode it, it was absolute sh£te.... Mostly back uphill, super tight uphill berms, an uphill table top, and no I'm not riding it backwards :-). Nobody I've met and spoken to can understand what it is supposed to be or how anyone could possibly design such a useless piece of track. I thought, due to the makeshift sign, that it was just mess about track that someone had built, but having been up there today, its now officially on the map board and official signage too...
I can't believe someone sanctioned such a waste of effort and money on such a pointless addition to a great trail....
Anybody know better than me as to what it's supposed to be...
Sorry rant over....:-(
eBike trail.
Nah, too short, too tight and twisty. It's only a minute and a half on my non ebike. Forgot to say that it is also all loose shale...
Erm, is it a 'return' to the top of a trail called 'tanks' maybe..?
Last spring
This has been worrying you since last spring, and your only just getting it off your chest 🙄

Read the OP again smartarse.
Maybe someone designed it on a map another person built it.
I can only assume the same thing happened on a section of the Gorlech down the road, it’s a lovely bit of trail, well if you like wide, smooth trails with berms in every corner - sadly it’s mostly flat to slightly uphill meaning you mostly just pedal through the middle of it all.
I ride the Gorlech nearly every week, can't say I recognize your description of any section there....🤔 Some nice off piste stuff being created around there though....
It’s just a short cut back to the fun bit at the top.
Sounds like the uphill pump section in Drumlanrig, never has a section of trail added so little to a trail centre...
It's no short cut back up. It's sign posted from the top pointing back down, one way.
Nobeerinthefridge I guess it depends on wether or not you can pump a trail... Or you're just a whiney wanna be that can't... Just an opinion 😉
Someone in Instagram says it's a return loop for the first part of the descent.
mate - if you think that's disappointing wait till you see a Sustrans National Cycle Network sign!!!

I can pump a trail but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be better on the flat. Sorry! Love your work but I don't know why you did it that way when the same effort could have got something that more people would enjoy and just about everyone would enjoy more.
"there's also a short alternative loop (Tank's return) that takes you back to near the start"
At Cwm Rhaeadr, you're looking at 12 minutes (yes, I know, I know...) of downhill if you just ride the core route as its a firewood climb out and the singletrack descent back: whole loop is listed as 45mins on the route guide and TBH most fit riders will be going a lot faster than that (in my case 33mins and not very fit on a single speed with a stop to chat and take photos at the top)...I would reckon that this loop has been added in to try and get people to stay a bit longer and add some variety as otherwise its quite short and the only "facilities" being a carpark...
That's not saying its bad, quite the opposite, if anyone hasn't been its an absolute gem and well worth the detour to find.
