Hi all. At the back end of last Summer, following a brief chat with an old mate of mine, I posted the following:

"Was talking to the long-time organiser of this well-established event this morning and he was telling me of the low entry numbers so far. This event is/was the original of its type in the West Yorkshire area and has been incredibly popular over the last 30 years, so it saddened me to hear of their struggles this year.
So, if you’re within a reasonable drive of Holmfirth (on a quiet Sunday morning), fancy riding some great way-marked trails in an unfamiliar area and enjoy the challenge of an XC event like this then please sign up and give them your support. It’s only £15 (with an optional t-shirt for an extra £6), so it’s not a bank-breaker either and there’s a choice of 3 routes too – 30miles, 20miles & 15miles.
To book online goto: http://www.bikechallenge.co.uk
Thanks."

And, thanks in part to lots of you lovely folk, and my posting of the above, the event took place as planned and they finished up with around 150 entries.
Fast forward to now, and my own event (Colne Valley MTB Challenge) is already suffering similar issues in terms of entries. We've been going since 2004 and are well established and like to think that we know how to put on a good event!
Please, if you can possibly find the time (and inclination) think about giving us a go. It's in less than a fortnight and there's a lot of effort gone in behind the scenes already. These events are a great morning/day out and can be as 'competitive' as you want them to be. The overwhelming majority of riders enjoy a stress-free ride in some fantastic surroundings, and take as long as they like to get round. It's really NOT a huge testosterone-fest at all, it's very relaxed and supportive.
Go to www.cvmbc.co.uk and click on the 'Entry' tab to sign up.
Many thanks.

I paid and entered for this year and having been numerous previous years can support all the good things mentioned above about it. I travel down from the NE for it as it's everything I love about bike riding and "racing" (I know it's not a race but theres times!). No egos, great team of volunteer marshalls, great views, great trails, great craic and great bacon sandwiches at the end too!

Unfortunately I can't make it this year due to injury but do hope it goes ahead - it would be a shame to see it struggle!

If you're on the fence, just do it! One of the best events on the calendar.

No - the other long-standing event is the Holme Valley version. Entries were desperately low for last year's event, so I tried to drum up a bit of support on their behalf.
