Hi all.
After a bit of a cock up on my part and some less than accurate info from my LBS I now have an 83mm DUB BB but need a 73mm. Will I die if I cut 1cm off the plastic tube thing to fit?
Ta
wont the crank axle be too long? i think teh BB is just bearings.
or do you have a 73mm crank already?
If you cut one end of the tube off, I don't think it will fit very well. You could always just not use it, but your bearings might be more exposed to water.
Thanks both. I have the crank. The bike has a 73mm BB shell and was previously GXP. LBS told me that the old tube would fit, which I very much doubted, but they insisted.
The tube is just there to keep crap away from the axle/bearings right? It has no rotational or structural role does it?

Correct. Just stops water going up into the bearing if it gets into bottom bracket shell.
They normally fit onto to the BB at either end. So try taking a slice out of the middle and then joining it back together with a strip of gorilla tape.
What Blackflag said, take 10mm out of the middle and tape it
@Blackflag and @honourablegeorge - bloody geniuses. Thank you.
Get the mods to change you topic title to 'can anyone send me a 73mm DUB BB tube' for maximum engagement. I've got a few HTII ones at home because I just buy whatever is compatible/cheap/available and reuse the old centre seal.
