this popped up on my Facebook feed, no connection but thought it might be worth posting here for the locals

APPEAL: Officers appeal for help to identify riders who may be able to help enquiries

Officers from the force’s Off-Road Bike Intervention Team (ORBIT) have released these images of a group of people they would like to speak to in connection with a reported incident of assault and criminal damage.

[img] [/img]

It is reported that at about 2.15pm on Saturday 5 March, the victim was cycling on a bridle path called Cut Gate in Rivelin Valley, near to Rivelin Valley Road. A group on off-road motorcycles approached her and words were exchanged between the victim and one of the group. The group then surrounded the victim and spun their wheels in the mud, covering the cyclist. One of the group then grabbed the victim’s rucksack and tried to pull them off while another rider kicked their pushbike.

The incident led to a camera used by the victim to record their cycling being broken.

Enquiries are ongoing but officers are keen to identify any of the group in the images or their motorcycles as they may be able to assist with enquiries.

PC Jamie Walker, from the ORBIT team, said: “Unfortunately, this was yet another example of the minority giving the majority of law abiding motorcyclists a bad name. This was not anti-social behaviour, the matter is being dealt with as a police investigation of assault and criminal damage.

“In addition to the police investigation, any riders identified during enquiries will be referred to Natural England with regards to offences of damaging a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).”

Do you recognise either the riders or their vehicles that may be able to help us with our enquiries?

If you have any information, please contact 101 quoting incident number 975 of 5 March, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Alternatively, you can stay completely anonymous by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers via their website https://zcu.io/j3Y5 or by calling their UK Contact Centre on 0800 555 111.

That is pants, glad it makes no mention of injury but it's small solace

I've put it up on a few motorbike forums.

Weird report. Rivelin Valley Road is not particularly near Cut Gate, which itself isn't in the Rivelin Valley. So maybe there's another path also called Cut Gate? It looks like the OG Cut Gate from the pictures, though.

Hope the rider is OK. Anecdotally it seems like there's quite a few Rule 1 breakers on motorbikes around at the moment.

A trawl through MX or Dirt bike Facebook groups locally might be useful to identify them

I saw that on Facebook earlier; one of the riders has a race number on his bike. If the picture can be processed to allow it to be read, one of the local MX clubs might be able to ID the rider.

And why would they want to do that?

Would we keep quiet if a member of this forum was acting like a Dick and giving us a bad name?

I tried to find a higher res photo by searching the image using Google but it didn't find anything unfortunately.

Biker gangs hate each other don't they.

In honesty the exact same reason anyone might want to shop them, whether they're another MXer or not.

Terrible incident but also terrible reporting, as mentioned above it happened on Cut Gate which is nowhere near (15km as crow flies) Rivelin valley road. The BBC are now only reporting the RVR bit which is careless and misleading.

Based on one twitter post, it's possible the same group were spotted heading towards / through Crosspool in Sheffield which is above Rivelin valley but you wouldn't really use RVR to describe that area either.

Knobbery of the highest order, and assaulting a woman into the bargain.

To do it at 2PM on a weekend when there's guaranteed to be loads of people up there as well.

Hope the rozzers track them down, I know there must be responsible MXers out there somwhere but I've had so many profoundly negative experiences with them when I've encountered them locally that it's hard to be objective.

Because they are not all knobs and a lot of them will be georged off that a few throbbers are giving the decent majority some bad press?

In my experience, it is at best decent minority, and a majority of complete bellends unfortunately.

Perhaps the decent ones don't ride where I ride, and my experience of mx'ers on bridleways is by definition the knobbers who are happy to ride illegally.

Pointless trying to identify them by a number.
They're on enduro bikes not MX bikes.
Most enduro events you get a different number for each event.

Is there a results website for events, like rootsandrain is for MTB? Top right looks like 221, got it on the side too.

just like the scum that have destroyed Lee/Cragg Quarry.
There's no point having enduro/Mx bike unless you are willing to take it to a proper practice track/event.
