After our last wheel/tyre interface at Dyfi i installed a brand new DHR in DH casing onto the last rear wheel. I also installed a used Cushcore. However it only stays inflated for 2-3 days. So i took it apart and removed the cushcore, inflated it again, it's been rock solid for a week. So what am i missing here that means the cushcore is causing an issue ? What's the potential issue and fix ?
Bit confused by this one.

I would suspect it’s not the cushcore and maybe the tyre is now sealed, either mechanically or better coated with sealant? I use rimpact, but they tend to improve the seal, I’m not sure it could do otherwise? 🙂

What’s the potential issue

Cushcore likely not allowing the tyre bead to fully seat in the rim. Inflate it hard with the cushcore in and go for a ride. Also the insert doesnt allow the tubeless fluid to move around as easily. Worth putting in a wee bit extra fluid and giving it a right good shake around the tyre although a ride should do that for you.

Are you using the same valve both times?

Agree about Cushcore and sealant. Also make sure to use soapy water as per the instructions when fitting them so that everything can move around when you're inflating them.

DH casing and Cushcore is quite serious puncture protection IMV. I use Exo + and Cushcore at Dyfi with no problems.

Yes, i just removed the tyre/cush, then re-fitted with just fluid.

You only get 1 race run at National DH, so if we can stop him flatting i'm all for it... I don't think there's THAT much downside to being over protected in terms of weight penalty for example.

Ah, for downhill I agree that it's not such a problem, although I suspect it'll feel quite "dead".

I’ve slashed an enduro casing Conti in Dyfi Forest so totally would take a full DH casing thre for DH racing / smashing down hills somewhere rocky / that has sharp rocks.

In terms of the dead feeling my bike felt great at Dyfi bike park with a wild enduro up front and a DH casing Conti out back - the weight just made it feel superb. Felt bloody awful pedalling round an xc route at Long Mynd the following day though 🥵

On the cushcore just make sure the bead is definitely fully seated and bang in more sealant than you normally would. It often sticks a bit to the insert taking a bit out of circulation. Then have a bit of a ride about to fully get the sealant everywhere.

I tried to fit the cushcore, sadly i was defeated by it doing it solo. For me at the moment it's a 3-4 hand job, deffo not a 2.. 😀

He's been out riding it and was most happy without it, but in truth, he doesn't care either way 😀

I think we'll start this weekend with it out, see if he punctures.

Can recommend the Cushcore Bead Dropper lever - makes a surprising amount of difference when it comes to fitting / removing bar steward inserts!

I never enjoy fitting tyres with inserts in them. Bastard of a job everytime for me

It’s worth watching the instruction videos, makes a massive difference.

For the original question, inserts can stop sealant from getting around the tyre properly, so if you've got little micro holes or a leak at a bead that just needs a tiny splash of sealant, pretty common, it might just never get it.

Had another go and got it on solo. It REALLY doesn't work using normal tyre mounting methods and using the 'rest it on a bin' works 100 times better... It wasn't easy still, but i managed it.

Lets see if it stays inflated this time.
