Is anyone else running Cush Core?
I like the feel but it makes my wheels too heavy to use for anything other that uplift days.
What wheels and tires are people using with their Cush Core?
Not cushcore as they were too expensive and heavy.
Went for Rimpacts version - running on Hunt trail wides and magic mary front hans dampf rear - loving it currently - have to say i only have it on my enduro bike which is a heavy steel framed full suss so an extra 100grams on the wheels i dont notice too much.
Have Cush Core in all of my rear wheels (so that's for my Trance 29er and Reign 29er) as I live & ride on the edge of and into the Peak District. Yes, they're heavy but I hate pinch punctures more than weight. I also use Schwalbe Super Gravity carcasses on the rear as I hate pinch punctures so much 🙂
I run it on my hardtail, and its saved my rims for sure and i like the feel it gives to asborbs the chatter well!
I run Schwable Magic Mary front and MSC Gripper rear on stans flow mk3 rims.
Just done some rotational interia calculations out of curiosity for an average trail-grade alloy rear wheel with tyre. They might even be correct.
CushCore Pro adds 17% to a 27.5, bringing it equal to a 29 without CushCore. Adds 16% onto a 29.
Eek, just fitted a rimpact on the rear after destroying my 3rd carbon rim. Not ridden with it yet but this thread is making me sweat at the thought of a long ascent.
Yup, up until about 2 months ago just ran a cushcore in the rear on the Enduro bike (evil calling), nothing in the front but a reasonable pressure. Cue front pinch flat, I'm now running cushcore front and rear. Running significantly lighter tannus ( https://tannus.com/tubeless/) inserts in a "down country" evil following build with really lightweight xc tyres (racing ralph, rocket ron) with hunt xc light wheels. Only put one spin on the build so far, about 40kms, but they got hammered through the same routes as the Endure setup, albeit at a lower speed, no flats and rims 100% after so very happy with the tannus inserts.

Cushcore and Rimpacts are very different in weight, you won't notice much difference IME.
My bikes mostly have Rimpacts ( or the pro version) in the back with Super gravity or similar carcasses, it makes a big difference to ride feel and rim protection.
I can only imagine how good the cushcore must feel, but as above: the price and weight are a bit of an obstacle.
I’ve been running cushcore for a while now, and found I was able to drop a casing weight - I used to run Double Down as a minimum, but can get away with regular EXO now I’ve got cushcore fitted.
This offsets some of the weight, and after a while you don’t tend to notice it. Or at least the improvement in performance and reduction in punctures is enough for me
I’ve been running rimpact for a while now, on carbon rims. The protection from pinch/rim issues is very good, running pressures needed for traction.
However, they are a pain to repair on the trail when something goes wrong. I’ve had 2 slashes in the sidewalls (Maxxis EXO+) which did not seal due to the rimpact preventing the solution getting to the area where the cut was.
I think the cut in sidewall might have been induced by lower pressure used with the rimpact too. I now run ‘pre-rimpact’ pressures again, avoiding this again, so far anyway.
I’m often within 3 miles of home, and just rode home on the flat tyre (which the rimpact was great for).
But if I was riding further from home it would be an issue.

I’ve had Rimpact front and rear on both bikes for two years. Didn’t notice any negatives, pedal just fine. Run pretty much the same pressure in the dry, maybe a psi or two lower in the wet. Less sidewall squirming on the back, no rim dents since, slightly more damped feel.
I was thinking that I have to top up my sealant more often with them in but actually, I think it’s that I’ve been able to keep the same tyres on for so long!
I use rimpact. They are a good compromise if you’re intending to pedal the bike. Cushcore add significant rolling weight. You really notice that on long climbs when everyone else just pedals away from you. The rimpact has less of an effect. Re trail side punctures they are a nightmare with any insert... I’ve not had one with rimpact at 20 psi in the lakes yet.
I am using the Vittoria Air Liners on my ebike and they have performed very well. I can get away with using the lighter Exo Magic Marys instead of the downhill casing, so the weight penalty evens out. Also I really like that they are a tube shape, they basically fill the tyre, so you really feel the support even at low pressures and can even finish a ride on the insert in an emergency.
I use a Vittoria airliner in the rear wheel of my hardtail with a 2.6 tyre. I don’t notice a weight different - but I was running a tube before.
I will never ride a non insert rear wheel on my hardtail again. It’s absolutely wonderful.
Rimpack insert on the rear of both bikes (enduro rig and hard core hardtail). Both bike running 2.5 aggressor dd on the rear on 30mm internal carbon rims. I just like the added protection they other while running lower pressure to make ride comfort and grip (because of lower pressure) better
