What's the current best loop up Snowdon these days? Up Llanberis, down pig(?) and over telegraph?

You were probably thinking down Ranger Path and over Telegraph? But sadly Telegraph has been turned into a flat gravel path.

It's quite upsetting and I can't see myself riding Snowdon again anytime soon. Which was probably their plan all along.

Ranger Path is still good though.

And if you were feeling strong you could always go down it, then hike-a-bike up again and bomb down Llanberis to finish.

(I've never done Rhyd Ddu so can't comment on that)

Pyg takes you down to Pen y Pass. It's just rock steps. Don't go down that way it'll be horrible on a bike. The standard route is up Llanberis as lots of it is rideable. Then down Rangers and Telegraph Valley. Apparently telegraph valley has been resurfaced. And some parts of rangers were a few years back but it's likely still the best way down.

Last time we went up llanberis, down Rydd Dhu, up Ranger to the "plateau" then reversed Ranger, then down Telegraph.

I enjoyed Rhyd Dhu, apart from the scary ridge at the top with snow on it! But objectively speaking it's not as good a descent as Ranger.

Regarding Telegrsph, I never thought it was good in the first place, so wasn't bothered when they resurfaced it. But objectively speaking, I happy to be told I'm wrong on that front.

I want to go back and try the 4,3,2,1 route at some point. We tried to do this last year, but there was wet snow on Rhyd ddu and we didn't fancy doing it again as it refroze in the dark..

Up Llanberis

Down Rydd Ddu

Carry up the Cambrian way

Down Ranger and telegraph.

4 different paths

3 bridleways

2 best descents

1 mountain 🙂

Best loop I have doen was starting a\t Rhyd Ddu station. Rode down rode to base of Rangers, up Rangers until Telegraph path and then down Telegraph as far as tarmac. Then there is a cheeky footpath across the valley to the start of the Llanberis path (otherwise you need to drop right down to the town and come back up the steep tarmac climb). Then up Llanberis to the summit and down the Rhyd Ddu ridge. Personally I thinik the Rangers is OK but apart from 1 tecnical rocky shute at the end of the zig zags has nothing of any great note. Rhyd Ddu is far more interesting and varied with much more of a "big day out" feel to it.

Ah, you didn't say that.  When I did it at night we reversed the normal route. It was insanely windy and I concluded that in those conditions we'd be riding up little of Llanberis and down little of Ranger, so we went the other way. Which was a good choice.
