I'm out tonight and will report back.

My *guess* is that if it's dryish for a day or two the SDW itself will dry for Saturday. It was bone dry before the rain we've had and it generally recovers well from a couple of days heavy rain as it's so exposed for the most part.

Thanks wwaswas

any chance anyone else has been out in the last day or two or has an opinion on if it will dry in the next two days - which according to the reporst will be dry, but not particularly windy

Did a bit along the SDW from near Ditchiling Beacon and past Black Cap;

Generally up top it's fine, the bit as you turn right at Black Cap is quite wet but not too sticky (although the hedge trimmers have been through recently so go careful if you run tubes) but after you get out the wooded bit was dry and fast again.

I'd say it's probably better than it was during most of May, June and July, tbh, and if it stays dry today it'll be ok near me - current conditions wouldn't put me off doing your ride.

There were a couple of bits of slippy greenish chalk that came close to catching me out - was riding SS for the first time in a while and haven't quite got the power/traction balance dialled in yet.

The bits I rode last night up near Ditchling Beacon were absolutely fine, dried out nicely in the wind over the last couple of days. A few puddles, but running better than most of the summer this year, perfect night in fact for a night ride 😀

I dread that green-ish chalk you get on the downs. I live near Ditchling Beacon and ride round there a lot, usually in Stanmer Park but it's so slippery it's a nightmare. I've had less crashes on ice!
