We have been with eSure for a few years and due to renew on the 3rd.

I have my bike as a named item, new for old value is £4K. Just looked to add a 2nd hand orange that I bought my son and they need the new for old value again, so probably £4K again.

For mine, we pay £43 extra a year, the orange will be £32.

Not sure why there is such a difference when a bike is a bike right? Unless the new one gets a new risk discount.

The bikes are covered for theft, and away from the home, with a condition added this year that they must be locked to a fixed object. This is a new condition, and while common sense, could possibly cause some issues in the event of a claim, ie, what rated lock, what is a fixed object (sometimes use a large chain to lock them to my roof bars if unattended for a little while).

Anyway, I wondered if they was a popular, go-to home insurer I should get a quote from. Tried the comparison sites and some of the good prices coming up, don’t include the level of bike cover I need, despite specifying it on the quote builder.

Thanks

I'm with esure, previously with Aviva who were really good when I totalled a Condor frame.

I'm with Halifax currently. Their bike stuff is good.

However my wife is due to start working from home and Halifax will not cover that at all.

Any recommendations for insurers who do bikes and working From home with clients at the house? ( She's a phiso )

Also with Halifax who seem very good and cheap on bikes.

Blimey, just got a quote on the Halifax website and it’s circa £250, so £100 or so less than eSure, and that’s the “better” cover, garage contents etc and four bikes over £500, including the same two spendy ones.

I found Halifax quite limiting, I think it was because it would only cover x number of bikes, and with a big family we've got a shit load.

maybe I did something wrong!?

anyway, went with LV this year, seemed very good (and for what it's worth, they get a good rating on Which?).

Co-op used to be good but they ditched the 'expensive' item policy, so meant my best road bike wasn't covered. Someone here mentioned Barclays - you can take out the bike specific part of their home insurance for £9 a month - you don't need the rest insuring. All bikes covered upto £5k each. Co-op would only cover upto £2.5k each which covers our two MTB's just, but not the hand built road bike.

I'll be looking to switch the lot to Barclays this year.

it’s circa £250

Here we go again.
Yeah, so using confused.com, which is no way to find cheaper insurance, according to all those "in the know" (there's a thread) - I'm insured, buildings & contents, £10Kish worth of specified items (bikes) in the home and away from the home, loss/accidental damage... all in £153.
Renewal comes up in July and they've gone to £226, so I confused it again and got AA insurance for £155. But don't use confused.com cos the last thing it's for is to find cheaper insurance. So I'm told.

Does anyone have any recommendations for insuring bikes without proof of ownership? Most of ours are built with 2nd hand parts accumulated over time so not really any substantive proof. Bikmo apparently accept photos of the bikes but the costs are eyewatering and I'm only really fussed about insuring them from home break ins (seem all too common here in Sheffield)

None of mine have proof of ownership. Haven't provided a valuation since I was with (overcharged by) Zurich back in the 2000s

Co -op . Paid me £3800 ( £800 was ‘goodwill’) against a theft from attached garage claim, of £7800 for two bikes including my pride n joy heavily upgraded Reign Enduro bike.
Add to which the insult of wanting to send vouchers, so the other half’s Marin could be replaced from something at Halfords.
Treble kick in the gr0llies.
Bike insurance to me, is something of a rip off.

However my wife is due to start working from home and Halifax will not cover that at all.

Really your wife should have a separate public liability policy for that. There will be some really good physio packages covering professional indemnity, PL etc for not a lot of money.

I do not know of any domestic home insurer who will cover WFH with clients visiting to be fair as it really becomes a commercial risk.

Barclays for me, so simple.
Don't currently have the home insurance with them though, just the bikes.

@dannybgoode thanks for that! She has her own liability insurance already in place. I've started trawling the comparison sites. So far L V have said they will cover it all, I'll be giving them a ring before we actually take the insurance to check. It is costing almost exactly double what we pay now, so I still have some more comparison sites to check.
