You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
For reasons I CBA getting in to, I've managed for the last 7 yrs to use my work's travel insurance for my MTB holidays (legitimately so, with approval from work/insurer). However, with a current travel ban on work trips, it ain't happening this year...
So, where do I get travel insurance from that'll not leave me stranded in the alps with a broken leg thanks to their unscrupulous policy wording?
And, do I go annual or individual? COVID/lockdowns aside I've 2 MTB trips and potentially a ski trip to consider in the next 12 months.
We have had an annual one with Yellow Jersey for the past few years after the major ones started getting very expensive due to age. Just renewed it and it now has a COVID 19 exemption in it.
Ours is Europe and daughters is world wide.
I only know one person who has had to claim with them for some injuries after MTB crash in Chile and it was dealt with prompt and first class.
Thanks Tracey - was just looking at them... £90 for annual policy (there or thereabouts) including ski...
Be careful to check if it covers lift served MTB and what the position is on off piste skiiing without a guide (if that is applicable).
I found one that covered MTB, but had some nasty ski getouts, and one that covered skiing well but didn't like lift served MTB. In the end we paid £400 for family European cover, which I thought was astronomical.
If you find cheaper, let me know...
Yellow Jersey:
Wintersports does not include: Freestyle skiing, ....
off-piste skiing or snowboarding in areas designated as unsafe by resort
management, off-piste skiing or snowboarding where there is an avalanche
warning in place,
Which makes the policy pretty much worthless IMHO.
Ours is done mainly for MTB activities of which we are covered, and the odd snowboarding holiday
This is from our latest policy document if it helps

Ski Club of GB policy is pretty good I think, covers off piste with & without a guide and includes MTB cover by the looks of things.
Thanks for the head's up again - i think before i buy anything i will give them a call to check - i once had insurance years ago that covered MTB, but not on 'vertical tracks' - the poor person in the call centre couldn't explain what on earth that was supposed to mean... 😅
We always ring and check, even when we are renewing
This may help, from our latest

So gravel riding's not covered? 🙂
Am currently trying to sort some insurance out for our (fingers crossed) trip to the Alps in August, but multi-trip with skiing would be nice.
Yellow Jersey looks promising - any other companies to look at?
Ski club looks decent, but gets very expensive if you want "downhill MTB" rather than just MTB.

That's exactly what I was saying above, Yellow Jersey looks great for MTB, but is pretty much useless for skiing and boarding.
Ski club might be great for skiing, but as you say, puts downhill mtb in a high category....
As above you need to confirm that what you are wanting cover for is covered. The only way to ensure that is with a conversation preferably followed in an email confirmation.
That,s what we had to do with Abigale for the MTB part when we first took it out and every year since.
If you are wanting to do something extreme its always worthwhile checking be it MTB or winter sports.
In our case it covers what we want to do but each individual will be different and might have to tailor the cover to suit.
I use dogtag for my alps trips
