Doing a ride tomorrow and want to go from Curbar / Froggatt Edge over to Stanage Edge. Is road the only option other than heading all the way up Houndkirk? Burbage Rocks being off-limits?
Pretty much yes. Stanage is a bugger to get to without using road
Burbage valley main track is now a bridleway. The footpath along the top of Froggatt/Curbar is a concessionary bridleway and you can link these via the new Longshaw bridleway.
On return leg there you could take the new bridleway from B6054 that hits the access track to the old Barbrook reservoir and pops out over the road from Ramsley reservoir on the A621.
Andrew – this is already on the route – thanks.
AndrewL's right but it won't get you to Stanage. Better off doing Curbar / Frogatt and then enjoying Blacka / Houndkirk / Lady Cannings if that's your thing.
Podge speaks the truth!
There's always going to be some road unfortunately, at least it's much better now legally than it was a couple of years ago.
We are limited on time and want to get a big ride in. We're one hour away in Nottingham so are starting from the easiest point – Ringinglow
(apologies in advance)
possibly worth pointing out that the path through Longshaw, while lovely, is still a footpath in front of the 'house'.
it's probably for the best, as it's narrow-ish, and often busy. It's only a short stretch so pushing isn't too much of a chore.
fitting stanage into a ride is never an efficient use of time and energy...
If I were starting at Ringinglow I'd go round to Redmires by road first to descend Stanage then over to Burbage and Fox House then Devil's Elbow and join the Eastern Moors loop to Baslow/Froggatt, Longshaw (permissive), then Houndkirk back to the start
Stanage is a motorway these days, even I can ride up it!
