Do you have a Cube AMS 130 or have you ridden one? im looking at the 2012 range. I went to Walkers in Kilmaurs to look at some and was impressed, i think im going to hire one for the weekend to really test it out.
Im wanting to see peoples oppinions on these from experience. Ive had a couple of cube HT and they were great bikes.
Do the AMS have any common faults or niggles? i quite like the 130 SL
if you have owt to say about them then fire away.
cheers
scott
Are they a Cube dealer, i am wanting to ride one of the 29ers i wonder if they have one in?
cheers
yes they are, cant say i noticed any 29ers but then i wasnt looking for one, they do seem to have a quite a few different types of cube bikes, its a small shop but looks decent and the staff are very helpful
I own a 2011 AMS 130 Team and so far have had no issues with it.
It goes round Woburn Woods most weekends, with trips to Swinley, Cannock, Afan & Brechfa. I bought it because I went to look at a road bike and it was just sat there in the shop, so I asked if I could give it a go and loved the ride and handling. The 4 bar rear end works very well and has over time has got even better as the rear RP23 has bedded in and the pro pedal makes a good tangible effect when climbing (and is easy to access from the saddle). The Talas Fox fork seems well suited to it with the difference in heights (150/130/110) making the bike feel quite different. I use 150 a lot of the time and 130 for livelier handling when doing flat cross country. I have only used the 110 when doing a lot of climbing in Wales. The bike is reasonably light and the tubes are hydroformed to with an inch of their lives.
Negatives? – nothing really. I wouldn’t use it as a jump bike, but for flying round the trails and hopping off obstacles it’s great. It gets a good coating of mud every week and then a clean and nothing has failed. I think one of the rear wheel bearings (Sun Ringle) may need a little attention though, but the wheels still run smooth & straight. When I ride it I don’t wish for another bike.
When I think of upgrades the only thing that comes to mind is perhaps a dropper seat post. I have changed the bars & stem for a higher rise/shorter combo (just my personal preference) and in the winter mud the Nobby Nics have been swapped to Specialized Storm control tyres.
All in, I think they are very good value for the money and would recommend them. When test riding I rode it back to back with a £3k Scott Genius and preferred it (though the Scott rear suspension was amazingly fluid). The one thing I have noticed is that the 2012 lower end models have lost the X12 rear through axle for a std QR one.
Sorry to go on a bit, but I hope that helps.
Hi Mark, thanks for the input, much appreciated. yeah im aware that the sunringle hubs are poor, having said that even the ones on my wolfridge are going and its only been in use for 6 months.
Ive no idea why sunringle are not sorting it out, theres been a few cubes with hub problems, i was lucky with the HT but heard lots of people having hubs lock up and so on
Thanks will give them a ring.
Hi, I have a 2011 ams 130 pro, which I picked up from crc end of line for an amazing £1150 (must have been the last one). Super bike can not fault it, it's still rides like new and it's been out every weekend rain or shine. Been to Cannock alot with it and handles anything with ease. I have the rockshox revelation 120/150 on mine and mainly run on 150mm as it gives me a better upright feel, on climbs the propedal and lockout work really well and it's also beats my mates hard tails up hills and his alot fitter than me.
Con - I just found the Hayes brakes and the crank were a bit poor (should have better stuff on the sl)I have upgraded mine with thomson 80mm stem, richey carbon wcs low rise bars, xt crankset and xt brakes ( as a got it at a bargain price the upgrade feel worth it). I have also changed the tyres to Ralph racing rear and rocket Ron up front- the original were cheap nobby nic wire.
Overall super bike it's really been good with no issue to report so far.
Hope that helps.
Hi, after just reading the question and other peoples replies. I have recently (2 months ago) bought a 20" 2012 cube ams 130. Not the pro/sl/race but just the standard 130. All i have to say is that it is a brilliant bike, handles well although at first needs a bit of getting used to after upgrading from a 16" cube acid hard tail. The gears are good but i would advise at some point upgrading the chain set from the Shimano slx to something of your choice if you were to go for the bike. While there are a few concerns about the sunringlé wheels around, I have had no problems yet (fingers crossed that i won't) with them, very comfortable.
I would truly recommend this bike to anyone but would advise a test ride before purchase.
Hope this helps with your choice.

Hello I brought a AMS pro this year about the time supafly1982 started this owners club .after looking at many bikes this suited plus the £200 discount ! Swaed things as I was stretching budget ! 8 months on and Realy like the feel of it climbs really well and handles well too the only thing has let me down is the XT derailleur seized and did not keep chain tension witch was replaced under warranty ! And now the non drive arm fell off but that's prob my own fault for not cheaking every 100 miles !!! It dose what it says good all rounder !
Walkers do get 29ers in. I just picked up my ltd sl 29 last week ( which is Brill ... 29er convert now) Give them a call, they are helpful.
For any fellow AMS Pro 130 owners id have a look at this post by myself , esp si130
http://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/cube-ams-pro-130-2011-design-fault-warranty-claim
I love this bike to bits but with the problem above and recently a cracked frame (which was replaced under warranty) im slightly soured. Cubes warranty dept are shockingly bad and in the 11 months ive owned the bike the bike has been in the shop for 2 months due to warranty claims.
I would recommend this bike to anyone but on the understanding that Cube themselves are a shite company when it comes to warranty claims.

Thanks for that wookie ! mine is the 2012 model do you think they would have addressed this prob from 2011model ?And i know why mine got loose and come off ! was on a off camber trail and hit some high ground with drive arm which knocked me sideways ! so im pretty sure this shreded the thread on the plastic bolt And when left arm fell off there was no spacer ? All I had to replace was the shimano plastic bolt which pulls crank and arm together ! Have not had a prob since ! And you say crack in Frame where and how did that happen !
