Afternoon folks.
To achieve a "nicer" outer cable run (around the HT to the DT cable stops) is this approach acceptable - I'm guessing it would take a while for the to rub through another:
* not my bike or shoes - who chooses to lace shoes like this!
Why cross on the downtube? Surely better to cross before they enter the cablestops under the bars?
Erm, shouldn't it be a stright run if the front brake/shifter is on the left?
Yes it's fine. Shifting will also scrape some of the crud that will end up there from the front wheel
I'm a fan. It's called the California cross and often means that cables hold themselves away from the headtube, avoiding scuffing the paint.
There's minimal tension between the 2 cables so no risk of wearing through.
Fine, ran cables like that for many many years on various bikes without issue.
Many Specialized road bikes came like that from new and as above keeps things away from the head tube.
That's the usual way of doing things, I understood as RD says to hold outer cable away from headtube.
Depends on the bike. Some Specialized bikes used to come like this from new. There were some BB cable guides that the grooves were at different heights so the cables do not rub.
Also depends on the bar/stem/tape/stop location. I have done it both ways depending on bikes, customer preferences, cable curve, cable rub on head tube etc.
If they can be crossed, they should.
