If you were thinking of dipping your toe into this big wheel world what would you go for? I'd expect to be able to create a complete bike from spares so frame and fork's would be practical. So what would I expect?
really never even riden one but I'd like to have a go.

How much you want to spend?
Are you going to race, ride off road, or just need a commuting bike because a road bike won't be strong enough?

I used a touring bike frame to get the canti bosses on my first couple of 3 peaks races .In fact apart from the tyres it was a bog standard Dawes Galaxy

You wont want a road frame as you wont have mud clearance round the brakes

I've got a road bike, A couple of decent Mountain bikes, one of which might be going to make space. Quite like the idea of the Three Peaks, just for the experience and I think I might enjoy riding it generally.
Budget, under 500 for the frame is doable.
