I have always been able to use strava to create GPX files by creating a route and exporting the GPX.

For the route I want to do on Saturday though Strava just will not do it. It's the Grizedale and esthwaite route in the Vertebrate book in case anyone has it.

Does anyone create their own GPX routes anywhere other than strava?

Thanks,

Mike

i've always used BikeHike as it provides full OS map overlays.

Another vote for Bikehike here, but I also use plotaroute too, as it has better snap-to-bridleway functionality, something that has never really worked on Bikehike.

Have a look on Just Go Ride.
You might well find it's already on there for a download.
If not, it's a pretty decent .gpx maker.

Not quite what you asked for, but http://www.ex-parrot.com/~pdw/cycle-routes/gpx//20100406-grizedale-marathon.gp x">here's a GPX for a route that's based closely on the one in the book, but takes in bits of the red too - replaces the dull fire road climb after Satterthwaite with single track, and adds a few extra bits.

Interested in this too.

I'd  like to create a route or copy a route and then upload onto my phone.

Will check the phone / route periodically throughout the ride to make sure I'm  On track

Up until now I have always printed o.s maps with a line drawing of the route on top.

I just want something to show me if I'm on track.

Heard  trailforks or view ranger are good apps?

I plot on Google earth and then use a gpsbabel script to convert the kml to gpx... But it's a bit technical. If I've just got my phone I use alpinequest, which is great features wise, but a bit clunky in the ui

Thanks for all the help guys.

Sefton, I use the UK Map app and it is fantastic. Much prefer this to using a Garmin.

Only problem is it's only on iphone not android. My mates and I have chipped in and bought a second hand iphone for £65. Works great

Thanks pdw that's really useful. I'll have a go at editing it to take a few miles out as I don't think we have enough time for the extra.
