My (2004???) Spesh S Works FSR has developed an irritating collection of creaks.
The custom Fox RL shock was serviced by Mojo at the end of 09 and the bike has had less than 300 easy miles use since then so I'm fairly sure it's not the shock or its DU bushing.
The lower chainstay - seatstay assembly has 608RS bearings in the bottom bracket pivot point and 688RS on the seatstay pivot. If I hold the bearings by thumb and fore finger and swing the assembly, I can feel roughness in both bearing points.
Would this roughness account for creaks and potentially some lateral movement?
There's a bearing supplier near me so I can get replacements easily enough.
Cheers
I have just replaced the entire 'ensemble' of bushing and bearings on my 05 RM slayer and I was shocked at the state of the internal bearings and the seat/chain stay bearings.
TBH i hadn't expected too much wear as I've not ridden it 'that' much...however I do hammer it when given a 'green card'.
Anyways, bit of a creek but blow me the inner BB bearing were powder ffs...I'm not jesting! All other 'hidden' bearings had suffered similar failings such as seals bending/deforming (not sure how and why).
I would replace the lot, if it were me.
Be prepared for a shock (ho ho) and more expense (bearing pushers/pullers/drifters)than you originally expected.
Good luck with it, see you on the other side 😛
Just replaced the bearings on my pitch due to creaking (not bad i must add) the bearings felt as you described, a little rough but not seized.
creak is now gone so was definately that.
Well after 90 mins of bodgetandscarping I've managed to get the bearings out.
Talk about DIY poncing about with bolts, washers and whatever else I could lay my hands on to press the bearings out . Three out of four feel decidedly rough in the hand but nothing like Love Tubs's so hopefully some fresh ones will do the trick. That's assuming I can get the burggers in!
push them back in using a vice, use the old bearing inbetween the new bearing and the vice to save damaging the new bearing
