My lads seatpost is creaky... I've cleaned it all at the contact points, even fitted a new saddle.. but still creaky and at 40kg he's not exactly fat...
Wondering if anyone has a decent set of service instructions for it ?
Wouldn't mind stripping it down and seeing if i can get it better.. saves me spending money on a new post...
Thanks in advance.
Mine's not creaking, but fails to top out pretty frequently (about 80% of the time) nothing I do, air pressure, cleaning, adjusting cable seems to work, so was thinking of replacement...
Don't know for sure what brand they are, but heard they're Brand X? If anyone can confirm?
responsiveness on ours is brilliant, boom, up, boom down, it's fast, consistent, excellent actually... Just wish it would shut up...
Doesn't actually bother him.. but i ride with him and it bothers me 😉
Firstly is it definitely the post? Creaks are often hard to isolate and source. If it is then I'd service it anyway. Just a basic open, clean, grease, but I doubt that bit would creak. I'd suspect the cones on saddle clamp or maybe where it fits into the frame.
Nickc, have you tried upping the pressure beyond the max recommended? Just a little, to see if that helps. If you do decide to get rid I might be interested. I need one more so might be will to take a chance I can get it going.
@nickjb, yeah it's above recommended at the moment, I might up it again and see what difference if that has, if any.
have you tried removing, cleaning and greasing the seat clamp, incl the frame collar ? That has been source of most of my dropper creaks
Ours is good - but we've just run into the regularly not going right up.
I've just done full service. Now goes right up smoothly, but won't latch right down! Pop it down and it comes back up a few cm...!
Basic service is easy - leave it in frame.
Air out, undo collar, pull apart. Clean and light grease back together.
Full service - air out, remove from frame, undo collar and pull apart. On base there is a circlip. Undo and then pull inner out of lower. Clean, grease etc. You will see there is an expanding wedge system - all stays together but a good clean and grease works on it. Make sure the various bushes and seals go back in the right order and the right direction.
If you can do fork lowers, you can do this.
Great posts, I'm just bemused as to the current issue... I've maybe over greased!

yes, more than once. But i'll have another go today 🙂
@matt, it's seems to be a common problem with these posts, Mine's been serviced and cleaned and still does it. V annoying.
which command post is it? mines the ircc 34mm one and it used to do this. but its very different to the original one
Not sure of exact model - internal routed and came on 2016 Stumpy 6fattie.

Mine does this. Went back to Spesh and they replaced under warranty after two service attempts by LBS failed to sort.
New one has started doing it as well.
on the plus side...the ratchety thingy means if it breaks at least you can cycle home with it up. Unlike My KS Lev which p1ssed fluid everywhere and sagged on Sat leaving me to cycle 20 miles home with my knees around my ears.
lol dont bet on it. Th collet is probably most likely to go leaving you with it down 🙂
the newer ones build up a bit of an air pocket under the seal head. this coupled with a bit too much grease can mean that the colet doesnt click into its top position. solution is to give it a quick clean and max out the air pressure (100 psi on mine, 20 on the older ones)
