well it makes more of a cracking sound if I hit a crack or something in the road (it's on my road bike)

I have fully cleaned and regreased it per the Chris King website, so it seems the bearings are proper knackered

is it actually possible to replace them, as they are press itted to the cups?

thanks

Are you sure it's not the cups moving in the headtube? Does the fork have alu steerer pressed into a carbon lower? If so, check that as well.

ermm yes it is alu steerer into carbon fork legs

if it is that, does that mean knackered fork?

as for the cups - I guess bang tem out, clean up and reinstall?

thanks

You don't need to remove the cups just the bearings.

When you lift the bike by the bars and twist the bars does it feel good or notchy?

When you pull the front brake and rock forwards and backwards is there excess play?

If you remove the bearings they will have a number on them.  However, Chris King bearings will be expensive. On my hope bearings I remove the rubber seal and degrease the bearings, dry, relube and refit the seal.

My annoying noises came from

1) the bolt thru skewer rattling.

2) the stem holding the bar. Had to remove, degrease, clean and reinstall.

3) the shifter rattling.

I have the same problem on my MTB. Check your crown race too, mine has worked loose on the steerer and spins a little. Very annoying

You can’t remove the bearings from a Chris king - they are pressed in. Or at least if you can it’s a hammer job I think
