Was out riding last night, along the canal to start and my seatpost was creaking like a good Un. I pinched the seat collar with no difference. What did make a temporary difference through the evening was dropping the post and re-raising. But then the creaking kept returning. Any ideas what's happening? And what's to service with a Thomson dropper?
Sounds like the keyways/bushings are dry. Biggest frustration with the Thomson is that it's a factory service only. Done under warranty within the first two years. I'm not looking forward to getting past that point though.
I had a 27.2 version that did exactly this. Eventually it failed completely and was replaced under warranty.
Ah shit. So does it need to go back to the distributor?
Yep, iride is the only place in the uk to get it done.
I wish there were parts ans tools for a simple sliding element service. I could live with the cartridge being factory only but this is just silly.
Is it losing height on its own? Mine did that too before the complete failure.
You could try tweaking the cable tension, as Thomsons are pretty sensitive to this, but I don't reckon that will solve your problem.
Before you do that, i found I was getting creaking from saddle clamp/rails - maybe try that first?
The saddle is creaking, but this is different - sounds a lot more internal and is temporarily resolved with a drop / raise.
Just found the iride site. Cheers.
They may ask you to go back through the retailer.
