You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
So this is kind of a minor annoyance, but it annoys me all the same. Usually my bike (Deviate Highlander II) is lovely and quiet and feels great. But after half a dry ride, the shock starts creaking something crazy.
It creaks where the spring presses against the preload cap of the shock. It's 100% this as I've taken the shock off, cleaned the dust and dirt out of that area, put it back on and it's quiet again for a time.
I was wondering if anyone else has encountered this with this shock - or others - and has a more long-lasting solution?
It doesn't affect the ride quality in any way. But as we all know, a quiet bike is a good bike.
Pop some Copper grease on the end of the spring. Or normal grease.
I believe some coil shocks have a buffer disc that the spring sits against, sorry that's a bit vague - but something to look into/perhaps ask your favourite suspension service place?
Yeah I have had this on some EXT shocks.
I use a nylon shim between the spring and spring perch on both ends.
The new EXT shock comes as standard with a similar but more factory looking setup.

these are called coil spring isolators in the car world. They come on Push shocks. I’ve not seen them as a retrofit for standard sized springs.
A quick google reveals that sprung suspension do them.

Ahh amazing! They're local so I can pop down and pick some up. Thanks all!
