[Closed] CRC packaging - how excessive?

In the last few weeks I've ordered three or four things from CRC and been a bit gobsmacked about how much excessive packaging boxes they used! I mean a set if disk pads doesn't need to come in a4 sized box one inch thick. A new seatpost doesn't need to come in a box you could safely fit new suspension forks in and a set of cleats doesn't need an a4 inch thick box either. I know it nice that a shop cares about getting something to you safely but this is way over the top! /end of rant.

they've got a new machine - have a look on their site for details.

They do say it's more eco than a bubblewrap lined jiffy bag as it can be recycled easily and I can see their point.

Economies of scale - cheaper to just bulk buy a4 envelopes.

Fewer returns of stuff broken in post.

Besides, if you were really concerned, you'd do one order, not several spread over a few weeks 🙂

Then their machine needs to correctly put the right packing box with the right product and help even more!

I recycled all the boxes this morning and the orders were to replace stuff that broke as and when it happened.
