Are they pretty reliable at the moment?
They're my defaults when looking for stuff online I am not usually in a rush so go cheapest option and receive at leisure.
Could do with getting a few bits before the weekend so happy with a postage premium as no chance of getting it all locally.
I ordered pedals from crc on Sunday, with express delivery, they arrived this afternoon.
I ordered regular delivery bits from crc on Saturday night and they arrived on Monday morning via avri, but they can be hit when miss. Paint for next day delivery doesn't always get your next day delivery. That said I've placed a few orders with them recently end they must be quiet as regularv delivery stuff has always been despatched very promptly.
Merlin have always been great, very consistent. Most reliable online bike shop imo.
I'm pretty sure CRC's next day delivery is a rainmaker promise.
There's a decent chance it's going to arrive next day even if you pay for regular delivery. They have nothing to lose if they offer an extra next day delivery service. If it arrives, they keep the money you paid for the service. If it doesn't, they refund that money and have lost nothing.
Every time someone asks about next day delivery on here it always seems there's at least as many people who didn't get their package the next day as did. It's a similar proportion to the numbers who get their delivery the next day with regular delivery.
I've pointed this out before on here but hopefully STWs new agreement with CRC means I'm still allowed to say that I really think next day delivery is incredibly dishonest, bordering on being a scam.
I pay for wiggle plus, same prices as crc most of the time, though the clearance codes are different, and don't think it's ever missed next day delivery on an order
FWIW I’ve ordered from Merlin recently and it’s been next day.
I don’t think there’s much dishonesty in it and no different to literally every shop selling goods on the internet that offers next day service. Ultimately it’s out of their hands once they pick and package it and it’s in the hands of a courier.

Exactly. They are charging for a service they have no responsibility for.
For anyone who watched The Wire, this is exactly how Clay Davis scammed Stringer Bell.
You get someone to pay for something that may or may not happen. You pretend if you pay more you are guaranteeing a good result whereas in actual fact it is out of your hands.
Absolutely no risk to CRC and a fairly decent bit of extra cash,
and a fairly decent bit of extra cash
Surely they book the more expensive service. Whether it arrives or not. If they've paid more for the service, then there's no more extra cash. It would only be a bit scammy if they offer you next day, then pay for 5 day courier for example. If they actually pay Evri and then the courier are crap, CRC have not made any more money.
Surely they book the more expensive service.
Then you would expect people who paid for next day delivery to actually get their delivery next day more often than those who pay for regular delivery.
This question has been asked several times over the years on here and elsewhere and there has never been an obvious difference in delivery times between people who pay for the service and those who don't.
Next day delivery isn't a scam. As part of that they have to pay the courier for a faster service that the courier expects to make next day delivery on. That means faster processing in the warehouse etc.
A scam would be what a site I had the misfortune to work on a good few years back, they only dispatched orders after 2 weeks (all indicated in the terms) but you could still pay for next day delivery. No surprise they got lots of where is my order queries 2 days after point of order 🤦♂️. No idea why the dispatch was so slow as the products were not anything special.

Again, then there should be an obvious difference in delivery times between regular delivery and next day.
That standard deliveries are also arriving quickly does not make it a scam. I doubt that a business will be paying for all orders to go on the fast service. Bet if one truck is sent to pick up packages then those for next day get loaded first (it at least space is reserved on the truck for them).
I doubt that a business will be paying for all orders to go on the fast service.
CRC has no need to pay for a specific fast service. There are orders going out of there continually.
🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🧱
The idiocy of that statement astounds me.

Well, since you're now getting upset I can see the seed of doubt has been planted in your head so I'll just leave it there and see if anything eventually penetrates your consciousness.
If the standard service gets it there next day, that's a bonus. When selecting free delivery you understand it might take a week, if you get it sooner, sweet.
If you pay for next day delivery, and the item doesn't turn up next, then yeah moan about it or try to get some money back.
How many people buy shit from from internet shops that post on STW? Who do you think is more likely to comment about the service they had, people that have received a normal service for free, or the few that have paid for a service and didn't get it?...

Read the threads I linked above. Anytime it gets mentioned there's plenty people saying they got stuff next day with normal service and plenty saying they paid for next day and it didn't arrive next day.
Or don't, it's entirely up to you.
If you think about where the CRC's input in this next day delivery would be, the only place they can do anything different is in the picking process which is generally not where the hold up is. The only time the picking process isn't done within a few hours is where you've bought something they've suddenly found isn't in stock. In which case all the extra money in the world isn't going to get you your part any quicker.
Do you think their logistic setup has a special channel for next day delivery packages? Or do you think it's more likely everything just goes out in exactly the same lorry regardless of which delivery service you paid for?

For real ?
Do you ever get 2nd class royal mail on day 1 ? or RM 48 on day 1... No... but they leave the post office on the same van to the depot. Of course they have different channels within the couriers network.

That's my point though, say 100 STW members buy something from CRC and pay for next day delivery, a thread on here has 10 people saying they had crap service and 10 people saying they had normal service. Does that mean that 50 buyers had crap service? I doubt that very much, I'd say it's more likely that maybe 15 people had crap service and 85 had normal service. You generally don't talk about normal service, some talk about great service, and lots tell about crap service.

I meant in CRC's depot. As others have said, once it's out the door CRC have little say in the matter.
I'm not sure what agreements CRC has but there is no evidence they have a multi-channel delivery agreement. Which makes sense because from a logistics point of view it's going to be cheaper to just send everything the equivalent of 1st class.
That's why so many packages arrive next day. It's extremely efficient because they make no allowances for prioritised packages.
Which is why it makes no difference if you pay for next day delivery.
Wiggle have never failed a next day delivery for me on Wiggle plus over the last few years. Faultless. 🙂
Ultimately it’s out of their hands once they pick and package it and it’s in the hands of a courier.
It's not. They choose the courier and sign the contract, the business should then monitor that service and are responsible for ensuring it needs the needs of them and their customers. If the service is not up to standard then they should flag this or change the courier used.
That being said, on the few occasions I've paid for next day from CRC, I don't think I've had any problems. Wiggle+ was great but seeing the website downgrade broke my account, the helpdesk seem to have given up trying to fix it. Can't sign up again as my email already exists!
You generally don’t talk about normal service, some talk about great service, and lots tell about crap service.
Again, read the links. People literally ask, 'Did you get next day delivery when you paid for it?'
Then a third of people say, 'Yes I did', a third say, 'No I didn't', and a third say, 'Yes I did but I didn't pay for it'.
This is not people screaming into the void. This is people answering questions that have been asked.
Going back over my CRC history:
- Paid for next day (Evri), ordered last Sunday, arrived Monday (1 day)
- Paid standard (£0), ordered on 9th August, arrived 11th August (2 days)
- Paid standard (£0), ordered on 5th August, arrived 7th August (2 days)
So in this very small sample, the next-day delivery makes it show up faster.
I should probably acknowledge that I haven't used CRC in 10 years (having been using them since the pre-website days).
This is when CRC were responsible for a fifth of all deliveries handled by the NI Post Office. They were offering next day delivery then but that was definitely in the days when there was a better than average chance your package was going to turn up next day with regular delivery. Twice I paid for next day delivery and twice it took longer than next the next day which really made me wonder.
As far as I could see there simply wasn't room for an expedited delivery lane as the delivery system seemed to be running as efficiently as it possibly could. Any attempt to push a parcel through quicker would only add inefficiencies.
So yeah, it could well be it's a different story now it's all Wiggle and there are multiple lanes for delivery.
As far as I could see there simply wasn’t room for an expedited delivery lane
From working there ?
LOL you're telling us how a company you've not used in 10+ years and has had multiple different owners must work.
CRC free postage seems to be 1 or 2 days for me at the moment, it is annoying how good it is because I don't need the stuff urgently (hence the free postage option). A few months back they couldn't get next day stuff to me within 2 days.
From working there ?
From ordering packages and getting them the next day with regular delivery. In order to improve on that level of efficiency they would have to start teleporting them into my lap as soon as I clicked Submit Order.
LOL you’re telling us how a company you’ve not used in 10+ years and has had multiple different owners must work.
Yeah, I'm out of date.
However, if packages are still arriving next day with regular delivery and still arriving after next day with next day delivery then it wouldn't surprise me if they are still playing the same game.
To chip in with my experience. Occasionally I use CRC and pay for next day delivery. They have delivered on time and have compensated me once were they didn’t. Historically, I have had an issue (Nearly two decades ago.) with Wiggle not delivering the next day when paid for and refusing to pay compensation for the increased cost of the delivery service. I have used them sparingly since - only to buy an item at a promotional price.
As a long-time cyclist, I too have used them pre-internet.
Having worked in eCommerce - yes, they can have an expedited delivery service. Your paid for next day delivery service is a guaranteed service. As for showing the purchaser the contract between the retailer and the logistics company, they do not need to. Your contract - which you do have a right to see is with the retailer. If you only pay for or have free postage and receive it next day - surely as others have said, it is a bonus.
Thanks all. I can see a bit of internet friction has developed on what I thought was a pretty innocuous question 😂
It seems the gear should be here tomorrow in time for half term biking adventures .
I'm currently waiting for a delivery Wiggle said would come by 12th Oct and Evri seem to be about as responsive as a brick
